(WORK IN PROGRESS)
A simple experimental display typeface based upon the theme of repetition and continuity created for my course at UWE. I drew inspiration from the literal idea of repetitive geometry and patterns. (Due to the limitations of fontstruct some manual spacing may be needed when being used.)

A punk in a suit: the initial inspiration for this font came from the theme 'loud'. My thought process was that actions speak louder than words, and the Punk movement in the ‘70s helped people through a lot of social and economic unrest; punk communicates effectively. Consequently, I approached creating a typeface with the DIY mentality of punk. I observed the approach of Jamie Reid, the zine culture and various band posters to identify with the distinctive cut and paste style. I then considered how this could be used to communicate with more than one audience at once while retaining the punk aesthetic. This led me to create a typeface which is conflicted between serif and sans-serif; it features jerky counters contrasting with chipped bowls; it’s a font designed to appear cut up and pasted back together in line with the traditional ethics of DIY punk. Theme: Curves
Idea: Shoe lace
... was set a task to research, develop and make a font/typeface design using one of the themes in a list given to us. My first two attempts was looking at the most obvious idea of bubble writing just to get a feel of fontstruct where it occurred to me that I practically chose one of the most hardest themes to do on fonstruct. other attempts were made in sketch books to see how much could push my thought process on one particular theme. The idea then struck me whilst on a break and looking down at my shoes after dropping an item.
Process: took one shoe lace/string and arranged into letters.
then took pictures and use them as reference points for each and every letter.
because I had trouble recreating the actual picture on fontstruct I decided to step back and approach it differently. this is when I got the idea that instead of just making the string as it is, i'll just make the font thicker and put in some pattern like detail such as weaved fabric and recreate that.
I went back to the sketchbook and looked at the letters and decided to just do it with one string shaped as the letters

Based on the theme of 'repetition' my type design is completely based on crosswords. A crossword is a word puzzle that normally takes the form of a square or a rectangular grid of white and black shaded squares, however i decided to remove the black background that is normally visible as i wanted to create a clear, sleek and flowing typeface. Initially i wanted to create the whole font out of 4x3, but soon i realised that some letters wouldn't work and that would then make the whole font harder to read so i increased my canvas size per letter to 5x5 maximum. The numbers have no relevance to the shape of the letters, they are just evenly spread so that they don't duplicate next to each other. I have started playing around with other versions of the font and hope to get them live soon.

This was my third attempt at creating a successful font for my UWE graphic design project. I originally picked flaccid for my theme however when it came to generating my ideas they seemed very similar to other fonts already made, this led me to take one of my experiments and use it to base my font; Links. focused on repetition and patterns i chose to keep it simple and tried to make a complex looking pattern. any comments would be appreciated.

This font was inspired by Balinese Culture. Offerings to God are an integral part of daily living for the Balinese, the majority of whom are Hindu. The Balinese are extremely devout and no day goes by without making offerings to the Gods.

I wanted to create a very brutish display type that could be used in a project, my influences were early 1930's fonts like futura black and braggadocio as well as Compacta from the 60's. its yet to be finished.

Experimenting with the previous design Geo5x5 Round Slice 6 Final (sorry for long title, I've not really thought of a name as it was just for my record), by scaling the characters to a larger size. This is a clone of Geo5x5 Round Slice 6 Final Pattern 2

Six Foot Two:
is best viewed on ‘optical’ kerning as apposed to ‘metric’ kerning’ via your character palette.
SixFootTwo:
is primarily a display font.
If utilising in paragraph text, I would suggest a leading setting of 8pt higher that point size. e.g. font size 12pt on leading 20pt leading. Turn off hyphenation in paragraph palette for best performance.
This typeface was created in March 2013.
SixFootTwo is available in 'Regular' and 'Light'
