My theme was messy. I began looking into paint and the effect it can give when the ink runs out towards the end of the stroke. This led me to looking into graffiti and the 'messy' appearance it can give a place. I took photographs on my way home from Arnolfini of any typographic graffiti I came across and I traced the ones I was fond of. I particularly liked this one that had drips at a slight angle as it was written on a slant so I reproduced my own interpretation of it.

              This font is the showing the fluidity of ink descending in water, having no container but taking gravity into consideration. Shapes are not predictable and form characteristic paths, where the letters are revealed within the negative space. Designed to be confusing to the eye this ‘trippy drippy’ font holds a sense of ambiguity which can be looked at from different perspectives, giving it a range of liquid based designs from juice packaging to water parks.

                          This is my first attempt at using Fontstruct, my aim was to create a typeface representing the word 'Fluid'. I played around with some ideas by looking at how reflections and water held in a bottle can distort something's appearance, looking at the nature of running water and rain drops run down windows. I noticed how randomly liquids can move in an open space and how there really are no repeated patterns in its movement if you look closely. To get my final outcome I tried writing out the alphabet with nail varnish and glue which gave a really blotchy effect and sometimes gaps in the letter, which I then combined with the nature of rain drops running down windows to get a really wobbly letter form.

                                                                  My typeface was inspired by the idea of squishy warm candle wax. I melted wax onto alphabet fridge magnets then copied them into Frontstruct. This was a very lengthy process which too weeks to create, however I am happy with the final design.

                                                                              Capital letters have drips. (I recommend all caps.) Lowercase letters have no drips. "`" is a space with a drip. "~" is a space without a drip. "-" is a beginning splat, and periods, exclamation points, and question marks are closing splats. "|" is a close without a splat. "_" is a drip that you can add to the character before it. For example, you might think the drips in "banana" are too repetitive, so you can use "n_" instead of "N" to get an n with a different drip.
