This character set is inspired by the ironwork of balcony railings on Clifton's Victorian buildings. Based on the theme "elegant", I intended to capture the "elegance" portrayed by these ornate artworks, and so the internal patterns are based on actual pattern works from the iron railings. I felt that a set of capitals best captured the almost boastful and eye-catching nature of the railings.
JUNCTION is a typeface created from the intersection of two circles.
It was created in order to represent an INTROVERT (person who RETREATS mentally) theme. The intersection of the two circles symbolizes the limitations that the characters fit in to.
Geometries and grids are some of my interests and these are what inspired my ideas.
Crystal Clear is a decorative typeface that was inspired by crystals and precious stones.
I bought a couple of different crystals and based the typeface on them, some of the crystals used were rose quartz, fluorite, smokey quartz, clear quartz and a couple of other ones. Some of these stones were already cut and not in their natural form, unlike the rest which were rough looking and not cut to a certain shape.
This font is inspired by the people that rebel, protest and defy our political stances. Taken from the word ‘unstable’ this font aims to convey a sense of political instability. Using the imagery and typefaces created from protest banners I created ‘f*ck boris’ whilst encompassing iconic rebellion symbols used throughout our history.
My first digitally rendered typeface that focused around the theme of energy and its synonyms. I wanted to explore a typeface that would create the illusion of movement without using decorative elements such as gradients, serifs or superfluous details.
The minimalistic approach was inspired by typefaces designed by Paul Rand and the concept was inspired by 'sans forgetica'
This is a cloneThis font is produced based off of the buzzword "filthy" which led me to explore the Japanese Yakuza Gang. Inspired by their illustrative tattoos, and jewellery, I produced a typeface which replicates links. Not only do the links visually represent those found in chain necklaces, but they are also metaphorical representations of the fundamentals of gang behaviour, and the brotherhood that is formed
This font explores the theme of anger. I took inspiration from heavy metal/rock album covers and tried to recreate the same irregular/jarring lettering they do. To do this I painted letters quickly on varying sizes of paper and translated this onto fontstruct to get a rough/rushed look.
For my first project for the type introduction, I was set the challenge based of an initial project topic. My exploration originally consisted of looking at the word 'Filthy' further on to 'Dirty'. For my first step of topic exploration, the word Dirty initially related to looking at fast foods and oily foods eg. 'dirty burger' after looking at this I created a more indepth, zoned in idea of Diabetes. My final font has been drawn from the idea of looking at chemical structures of insulin and their bonds.
I constructed this font with the idea of wires 'trapping' the letters. I wanted the font to be sans-serif, looking like Futura/Gill Sans. My theme was 'energetic' and at first I was looking more into food specifically and how we gain energy but then I took a different approach trying out different ways that I can portray electricity. Finally, I experimented with cutting out letters from pizza cardboard boxes and putting wires around them to try and make the digital fontstruct version look more realistic and accurate.
This geometric, sans serif typeface is based on the biological process endocytosis. Having an interest in science, I wanted to create a font that was both interesting to look at and, in some way, informative. Each letter (cell) is linked to the next by particles. The indents in each letter imitate the invagination of the plasma membrane, forming a pocket around the particle. In the cell, the particles are then ingested and transformed into vesicles. In summary, this is what endocytosis is.
I am currently studying Graphic Design at The University of the West of England and this is my first typeface on Fonstruct.
The theme I chose was Community, specifically gaming communities and how important they have been for people during lockdown.
This font began with the theme of rebirth and the idea of sending people to the next life. This lead me to looking into Egyptian Mummies and Mummification. I noticed intricate and careful wrappings of some of the mummies and decided to incorporate some of these patterns into the font.
For my chosen theme Community (specifically biological community)
I decided to work with a worm/snake shape. Trying to figure out the final letter shapes during the creative process I got inspired by the snake game I'm sure everyone played on their old Nokia including me.
I observed the snake's movements in the game and created a typeface based on that. I would characterize my typeface as a simple combination of retro and modern at the same time.

The inspiration for this font was the word "protect". After brainstorming and exploring various different ideas, one being fruit peel, I landed on this the theme of the Celtic knot. The sheild knot in the Celtic culture is known for its strenght and protection. It resembles a woven texture as is seen in the font above. The main purpose for the font Chosaint (Irish for "protect") is to be used in large title text.
This font was create around the theme Protect. I explored different areas within this theme and thought of claiming sanctuary in a church during medieval times and how that was a major form of protection. I constructed the letterforms using shapes I’d drawn from church floor plans and gothic architecture.
This typeface was created on the main theme of 'Protection' that i later explored in the idea of fences and how they can protect us from the outside world. I wanted my letters to connect with one another creating the illusion of a fence and potraying unity.
This font was designed around the theme word Elegant. I was inspired to create a typeface that was ornate and palatial; it is a ode to Baroque design.
I have tried to emulate columns for the body of the font and created a crowned frieze for some of the letters with decorative toppers for the remaining characters.
Oil Spill is a font inspired by the theme destructive. I looked on the destruction of buildings at first and the cracks on them. More from that I looked on how stress can affect people and cause primature wrinkles, but I focused more on the habitat destruction and decided to work on oil spills. The design shows the relationship between water and oil and how people's activity in the sea can lead to disastrous consequences
Zakhrafa is a type of Islamic art which consists of embellished geometric designs. It is often used to complement Arabic calligraphy on architecture to bookcovers and various media. The inspiration of this font comes from the various Islamic patterns that can be seen on buildings all across Qatar. After living there for 8 years, I learned a lot about the Islamic culture which is what I want the font to reflect.
This is a clonePollute is a font inspired by the theme 'destructive'. The creation of this Fontstruct was influenced by harmful and destructive emissions produced by farming.
The irregular structure of each letter suggests the way in which emissions and gases warp. Although rounded, the edges are sharp, portraying the destructive nature of emissions. The circular blocks, some hollow and some solid, represent the structure of gas. The 3D look I was aiming to produce from the centre of each letter was difficult to create, and therefore my design was limited.
Inspired by the combination of digital code, alien inscription and bold Greek and Russian typography; this font was created with "confident" being the main theme.
The visual features of confidence have been a focal point in the production of this font. Generally, confidence is associated with being bold and comfortable with ones self. But since a font is far from being human, I wanted to specifically focus on the combination of poise and shape.
This typeface shows impracticality and functionless. Like a decoration, this type has no function or use beyond being just something to look at. Each character is collapsing downwards with the different shapes in each letter slipping apart from each other. Some letters have completely collapsed whereas others are still falling apart.
FORWARD- I wanted to create a font in which felt like it had movement. I also wanted it to relate to codeing and glitching, so it had a technical feel. This font connects together, even when re-arranged. This was put in place to lead the viewer through the text so that they felt they were being lead into a digital world. I wanted This Font to be Energetic and hectic, and i feel like ive done this with the use of smaller pixels breaking up the thicker and more readable lettering.
This is a cloneInspired by perspective and architectural drawings, this font was a response to the word 'systematic'. The purpose for the design of the font was to create the effect of seeing each letter in two different perspectives. I was initally inspired by my grandad, who was an architect, showing me some of the designs he had drawn throughout his career and seeing how complex and techinal each one was, and how by using perspective you can create a three-dimensional effect on a two-dimensional scale.
'STANDARD' - This font was influenced by systematic shapes and objects.
I looked at stencils and stamps and the forms they create and incorporated this idea by constructing gaps in each character to create an overall stencil style.
Each character is the same width and height and almost bound by how much space they fill. I found similar patterns and rules in systematic objects which is why I tried to incorporate that into my font.
This font originates from the adjective 'Energetic'. It's stable centre and shakey outer layer represents the effect of consuming copious amounts of energy stimulating substances, usually resulting in a case of Caffeine Jitters.
‘Unstable’ was the word I used as a starting point in order to create this font. I was inspired by smoke from my incense sticks as it created such interesting patterns as it burnt away. I wanted to show the movement of smoke in each letter and make it appear delicate and elusive, like it could disappear at any minute.
I designed this font based on the word 'Thunderous'. My thinking in how the word relates is due to the Norse God Thor. I then started to look in to old Norse culture, this got me interested in runes. So with deeper research in to the Futharks spawned this type.
I developed this typeface in response to the theme of 'dangerous', my inspiration was barbed wire and fencing. I associate dangerous with restricted areas and confinement so I felt that creating a typeface reflecting wires and sharp points would accurately represent my theme. The straight, angular lines are similar to metal bars and so I believe give the feeling of a prison.
This font i created is based on the theme word Ambitious. I traced back to the 1980s and took inspiration from there. These are considered the years of individual aspiration and cultural diversity. People were more ambitious, expressive and they were creating their own identities and attitudes. So i wanted to create a font that looks bold and energetic to represent that ambitious attitude.
