A display typeface based upon some physical type I made from dark food colouring etched into sugar syrup - this is the second part in which the food dye has bled into the sugar syrup much more. This was to represent the brief theme I picked of 'unstable', hence why all the characters are completely induvidual in size and shape. I have also published a first version of this type before the dye bled into the syrup.

A display typeface (probably best viewed small, I'm aware!) based upon some physical type I made from dark food colouring etched into sugar syrup. I produced this typeface as a part of a UWE project. I started by exporing the word dangerous, where I moved onto the topic of fear. This lead me to a fear of heights and ultimately glass and the way it smashes. This broken glass typeface is shattered as if hit directly and smashed into shape. I wanted it to look more unorganised so the smash seemed more natural. I didn't want the pieces to fit the shape of the letter form but I also didn't want you to be unable to read the letter so I felt like this was a good middle ground between the two. This typeface is to be used as a title font rather than text font.

This Fractured font is inspired by the breaking of materials and what is left behind after the destruction as the letter forms begin to morph as the key aspects move away from there original space.

This typeface is based on the word 'Disintegrate'. It is centred around deconstructing each letterform to give the effect of falling apart and dissolving whilst still being legible. it was important to deconstruct the letter as much as possible, but the letters should always be readable on their own.

Originally inspired by the word ‘Disintegrate’. I explored the idea of decay and burnt edges, this lead to printing out an alphabet in the font Gotham and burning the edge just enough to get jagged edges but keep the text legible. By scanning in these letters I could print them onto graph paper which allowed me to format the shapes to fit with fontstruct. I feel this font is more suitable for posters or titles than a page body copy.

"Blimey!" is a typeface inspired by the 1970s Punk movement- paying notice to the political, economical and social issues of the time and how they affected what we commonly refer to as the “Punk Aesthetic”. Ransom note lettering, stencils, silkscreen printing and the appropriation of current cultural imagery aided the movement to deliver its important message of rebellion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Starting off with the theme "Dangerous", my focus for this project drifted to the definitions of both “rebellion” and “anarchy”. This naturally led me to the Punk movement and how it’s graphic style has been adopted into contemporary design practice. These graphics were often rough, raw, weathered and distressed- all of which I’ve tried to incorporate into my own type’s design. Ironically, the fact that this “style” is being used for commercial gain goes against the very foundations of Punk itself. This realisation spurred on the font’s name Blimey!, an ironic expression that is perhaps the furthest away from punk itself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This typeface would be best utilised in consideration to posters, flyers and possibly book covers (providing the content matches the attitude of the font). For this type face I was inspired by the posters created for the iconic music venue The Fillmore in San Francisco in the 60s and 70s. I wanted the letter forms to look hand crafted and lose, but still easily legible which was difficult using a grid and blocks! Some of the thickness and curves still need to be improved and I am currently working on a second draft with different up strokes on the Bs, Ds etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I originally tried basing my font on DIN Condensed in order to pick up speed, but it instantly felt that I wanted to create an original piece. I feel that this typeface would be best suited to a small poster with decorative intent.

My typeface is based on the theme of disintegration. My starting point came from my interpretation of the word disintegrate; I immediately thought of 'burn'. After this I carried out some experiments by burning paper which led me to focus on the fragility of the charred edges. This made me want to create a delicate typeface with subtle shading; I found that I was influenced by Baskerville and Bistream Vera. My final typeface is designed to look like burnt paper. It is expressive and could only be used as title text rather than body text.

this font is based on disintegration, this font represents forms breaking apart and decaying away either by them selves or merging into each other. I wanted to have each letter breaking apart but at the same time overlapping with another letter. This font is designed to be detailed but also readable at the same time.

This is the font I created as a graphic design student at UWE, it is based on the themes messy and disintegrate. The letterforms are based on Federico Landini's font Excellens but with something more. The idea behind this font was to recreate Excellens font but in a new and more disintegrated way. To create it I first rebuilt the basic letterforms on fonstruct, which I then started dismantling different size triangular sections, but still keeping the letters legible. I then also added the triangular sections next to the letters in order to create a sense of disintegration and movement. The font is designed to be used selectively and not for large pieces of text.

This typeface is based on the theme ‘Disintegrate’.‘Crumble’ is a synonym for disintegrate, so when I experimented with physical forms of demonstrating my chosen theme I made an alphabet out of biscuits. My typeface ‘Crumble’ is bold and made up of Capitals, I think it is more diverse than most as it differs quite a lot between each letter and punctuation symbol, this is because I felt that no one piece of biscuit will disintegrate in the same way and this is what I wanted to portray through my typeface. Based on disintegration, this font represents many forms of decay. It also appears like tea-stains on paper, giving it a very worn look. Despite this, the font is structured around helvetica and the letterforms remain recognisable and readable. The font is designed to be decorative and to be use selectively, for bold and attention grabbing headers, and not for large pieces of text. Think poster for your local rubbish tip! (or of a similar vibe).

Font based on the theme of decay. I started by looking at the decaying buildings, working from photographs of tired brick and worn surfaces. I made some rubbings from text on the side of a building and this is what the main font outline is based on. I wanted to create a worn font, with an almost burnt texture to replicate the worn and disintegrating buildings I started with. The name comes from text on the side of a building and I think the textures of decay can be beautiful.This is a clone

This font is a response to the Type project in 1st year at UWE. This first fontstruction and typeface was based on the theme of Disintegration. I conducted research by looking into video games, digital glitches and how deterioration and decay impacts both the visual quality and deferred meaning. This font can also represent deinterlacing. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
