This is my fonstruction based on the theme protect. I decided to go with the topic of glass. I was thinking about the different materials surrounding protection and thought glass suited the idea best as it protects many things in our everyday lives. I experiemnted with this topic by looking at the different types of glass and how they could be smashed or broken. I took and image of a broken wine bottle and tried to make the letters look like those specific pieces.

This typeface is based on the word 'Disintegrate'. It is centred around deconstructing each letterform to give the effect of falling apart and dissolving whilst still being legible. it was important to deconstruct the letter as much as possible, but the letters should always be readable on their own.

This is the font I created as a graphic design student at UWE, it is based on the themes messy and disintegrate. The letterforms are based on Federico Landini's font Excellens but with something more. The idea behind this font was to recreate Excellens font but in a new and more disintegrated way. To create it I first rebuilt the basic letterforms on fonstruct, which I then started dismantling different size triangular sections, but still keeping the letters legible. I then also added the triangular sections next to the letters in order to create a sense of disintegration and movement. The font is designed to be used selectively and not for large pieces of text.

I went for quite illustrative type with a simple structure – the effect layered over the letter. Whilst flicking through ‘typography sketchbooks’ I found some work I liked and considered to be a similar style to mine – urban influences. The letter works on a square of 10-34 across with a width of about 10 squares on the elements of the letter itself, although it varies on corners and joins which gives it a block or slab style. Because of the styling of the typeface I would say it’s use is in short texts or headings. It works better on small scales as on a larger scale the curves and disintegrating effect begin to pixelate.

02/08/17: Thanks to the new Kerning feature, a separate "r" is no longer required. Also made the rings a little rounder and fixed the rings on U and u.
