                                                                                          My first experimentation with Fontstruct. I set myself rules in that all letters must fit to 4x5 squares, and contain 4 circular bricks and 4 elongated bricks. The end result strikes me as a combination of organic and technological forms.

                                                                                                      The typeface was created with influence from fonts used on circus posters, I wanted it to come across as quite flamboyant with a sleek, more modern undertone which I think I have achieved with the thin vertical lines. Following my ‘ornate’ theme I also wanted to keep each letter very attractive making each letter look like an ornament but also if used a full body text still holds this ornamental theme.

                                                                                                            Although build from scratch, AUGHT should really appear as a clone of ought because the idea is the same, just a different execution. Some glyphs came together fairly easy (A B C etc.), others took some doing (T Y S), some just don't work out well (G P Q Z), and some worked too well (I J).

And believe it or not, in the process of doing these three fonts, enough additional glyphs were created and deleted to fill at least two more variants. This is why the Clone is enabled again so someone else might experiment some more, if they so choose.                                                                                                                           Inspired by caseycastille's Chinese Chairs, this started out as an exploration of optional letters for that font. Then I just doodled some repeating patterns. Then I saw how I can fill the patterns inside the letters. They fit together pretty easily for vertical letters, but diagonals were really tricky. The end product resembled Hawaiian leis draped over each glyph. Very floral. So there you have it. Flowers.                                                                                                                             Elegane is a response to the theme 'decorative'. It is a very french looking font, as it explores a quirky elegance, inspired by the illustrations of Walt Peregoy. I looked at Parisian culture and lifestyle. Architecture and interior style was very much a key influence as it is typically fanciful, ornate and decorative. The font is heavily influenced by floral design and is more of a display font, especially when used in a larger size as the structure of the circles becomes more apparent and therefore modernises it's appearance.
