The word ‘systematic’ was taken as a starting point for development, and led me to draw upon a personal interest in the inner workings of electronics. The ordered chaos of all the connections running hither and thither is extraordinarily beautiful.

This font was created and used as a cookie cutter in the process of developing the connect the bots typeface.

Inspired by the word 'fluid', I looked at marks made by ink and water to create this spacious yet urban looking font. The heavy use of circles combined with illustrative ink splatters and irregular shapes create a spontaneous, fluid and messy typeface.

This is an eye catching, three dimensional font, inspired by the word 'Huge' and based on the geometric shapes, and naturally occurring letter formations found within the floor plans of modern architecture. After looking into the design processes, I used negative space to give the illusions of a structure. It could be used as a cover font, or for a headline, and works either as a small or large typeface.

Inspired by urban architecture, rock texture, fabric twisting and Art Deco, my typeface stands blocked and edgy. Using 45 degree angle lines (7 per each) and 90 degree lines (4 per each)the blocked upper case typeface is confronting, bold and destructive. I have focused on creating a typeface that can be used for titles, magazines and posters. The typeface concentrates on the negative space rather then the positive. This allows each white shape to look unique and cutting.

‘Scrap Paper’ is a bold, display typeface inspired by the theme of compression. The letterforms were created from drawings of a distorted alphabet, formed by screwing up each letter printed onto a piece of paper, hence the name. The scrunched up type make for a ‘grunge’ feel, perfect for a large format, yet still visible when used at a smaller size.

Starting with the theme 'systematic' I looked into the natural system of the sun rising and setting and what effect this has. I looked into sundials and shadows and ways in which the system of the sun is recorded.

I wanted to create my font based around the theme of cracks in buildings. I took Inspiration from the formation of cracks in buildings. Everyone is familiar with cracks in bricks, concrete blocks and walls of houses and how some of these cause structural instability. They take on all sorts of shapes and sizes. They can start thin and then widen following a zig zag path between points that resembles a lightening bolt. I want to recreate this cracking within my font. I started with a font style that had curves and straight edges associated with different building styles. I then constructed cracks from potential weak spots in the letters. I diffused the edges of these cracks to try and demonstrate crumbling concrete.

Hijack is my first typeface and as been produced from my theme Asymmetrical. The font takes the characteristic of imperfections and glitches. In a world that often criticises imperfections and irregularities it offers an option to embrace the unsymmetrical aspects within this typeface. The use of this typeface could fit in a large variety of circumstances and forms, whether it be billboard posters, t-shirt and bags, TV, flyers and online website banners.

My chosen theme was the word ‘continuous’. This led me to look at rope and the circular patterns within lace and doilies. The typeface embodies the repetition and intricacy of lace but also the strength of rope through it's geometric style structure.

This typeface based on the theme fluid has been inspired by the way that water/ink splashes onto a surface and is also based on Zuzana Licko’s pixelated typography works. After a first attempt was too loose and large in scale a more cohesive type was created using that used the basic shape of existing characters and implemented fluid edges. This decorative typeface could be used for purposes in the sci-fi or horror genre of movies and gaming perhaps

My brother creates visual lighting performances. He talks a lot about particles, pointillism and images that are created from light. This led me to start with dots. I started with thick bold letters made up of rows of dots. I wanted to show that the placement of dots was important as it formed the letter. I felt this links to my theme, systematic. From a distance the letterforms however looked uninteresting and basic. I used a previous font as my template. I wanted to push myself and create my own font. It was after this that I saw a singular letterform in the Jigsaw catalogue that inspired me. I changed my idea to single outline of dots to form the letter. Then created another outline around it. Drawing on my original inspirations I can see my typeface being used for signage with lighting, as the dots can be replaced with lights. This is a clone

This font was based around the theme 'Messy'. I took inspiration from the imperfect calligraphy of Gemma O'Brien. I like the way her letterforms seem like they've been drawn out quickly and I tried to recreate this in Fontstruct. Another thing I looked at was how some artists used anything as a pen, so for this I tried a few unconventional things to create patchy looking type. I ended up using an old rubber brake pad for a bicycle, I think this looked nice because of its shape and rigidity. I think this embodies my theme well because it has the sketchy marks and generally untidy qualities.This is a clone
