Typeface initially based on the theme of decay, getting inspiration from the look of old, rotten, decayed wood. Created for my first year project at UWE Bristol, and my first fontstruction.

1st University project, set for the typography course, aiming to produce a typeface based on the word 'Decay'. The type was inspired by the decaying of flesh, in particular, looking at the aftermath. This is also my 1st time using FontStruct.

This is my first attempt to use fontstruct, which is a project given to me during my first year of studying graphic design at UWE; Bristol.
Initially the typeface was inspired by the product of organic decay. I cut out strawberries, apples and tomatoes in the shape of letters and left them to decay on a sheet of paper. When removing them, they left an interesting stained mark on the paper which I used as my basis for the letter forms. Latterly I have used the typeface "Hobo Std" as inspiration because of it's curvaceous body and similarity to the remaining marks of the fruit and vegetables. It is a display font having because of it's better readability on larger sizes. This due to the stained effect as well as the letters are bold. This is a clone

Font based on the theme of decay. I started by looking at the decaying buildings, working from photographs of tired brick and worn surfaces. I made some rubbings from text on the side of a building and this is what the main font outline is based on. I wanted to create a worn font, with an almost burnt texture to replicate the worn and disintegrating buildings I started with. The name comes from text on the side of a building and I think the textures of decay can be beautiful. This is a clone

This is my first fontsruction since studying at Uwe. I started looking at decay before looking into wood decay and the fungi and mushrooms that grow from it. Here I have make each letter resemble a mushroom.

This is my very first attempt on Fonstruct. My theme is based around Decay but it has a slight touch of Motion. I looked at how vines twist and surround objects over time.
All comments appreciated

this is my first Fontstruction and was set as a project within my graphics cause. The type is based on the word decay. Before creating the font i looked at different forms of decay and decided to base this particular font on tooth decay

This font came from the idea of 'squishy' being merged with the word 'decay' - such things as food become 'squishy' when they start to 'decay' and rot.

First time using Fonstruct. Font designed around the theme of decay, focusing on derelict buildings and areas where nature has begun to take over. Whilst loosely based on the somewhat derelict font, Times New Roman.
Welcome any feedback.
(work in progress; mainly letter 'R')

This is a font that I have designed during the first term of my Graphic Design degree at UWE Bristol. My typeface is based on the word 'decay'. My letters take the form of teeth, these teeth have been decayed and have holes, cracks and rot on the actual tooth and roots.
I developed this typeface by researching and taking photographs of rotten and healthy teeth. I then traced and made sketches from them. I then distorted the shapes to make up my type.
This typeface could be really good for use in a dental industry for advertising against tooth decay or things like toothpaste etc..

This is a font that i have designed and created as part of a project given in the first term of my first year doing Graphic Design at UWE. The initial theme for my project was "Decay" where I researched different types of rotting, erosion and decay of quality in every day objects. I then came to look at crumbling brick walls and developed my font from there. I've tried to show a lack in defined edges and emphasise a crumbled, smudgey typeface. I think it could be used as a relatively playful font, but could have strong impact if used for communicating the idea of decay or decompositon. This is a bold font, meant to be used big! Feel free to comment or discuss !

This typeface is based on the theme decay. It references the idea of how things decay when they are forgotten and so parts of each of the letters are missing. This links to the idea it is based on the courier font which was used in the typewriter. It shows a link that once something is forgotten e.g. technology such as a type writer it starts to decay. This typeface also has reference to the ideas of the bacteria that cause decay and so hence called prokaryotes which is the term used to describe this bacteria. This font can be used as a display font for many things including gig posters etc.

Built around the theme of Decay, the main meaning behind this font is representation of Architectural Decay. The tight kerning and thin widths of each letter are to show the height of buildings when put together in skylines. The mixture of serif and sans serif letters are used as examples of both traditional and modern day architecture being brought together in the same space, although how despite the age differences, both old and new are prone to decay like everything else.

I began by exploring the theme of decaying objects, such as fruit, and studied the shape (and change of shape) of the objects, as they progressively fell apart. By creating hand drawn sketches i began to create a typeface that looked as though it was rotting/melting away. I used a traditional typeface, Times New Roman, that could be considered as quite boring and a font which has been around for a long time and then used it as a base font which i then made to look as though it was rotting and falling apart by refering back to my earlier sketches. Overall I aimed to create a typeface that represents the decay of an older, more traditional and perhaps overused typeface.

This font looks like it's disintigrating right before your eyes.
