THIS IS EXTRA-ORDINARY.
Looks like real brush strokes. I wonder if fontstruct can produce non-modular fonts.infinity/10 :)

No wonder you've been gone so long! This is absolutely beautiful. Glad to have you back, p2pnut.
Comment by Goatmeal 4th july 2011
So flyer... An experience!
Comment by elmoyenique 4th july 2011
I meant: So airy and graceful... A great experience!
(Sorry for my disastrous English, dear master).
Comment by elmoyenique 4th july 2011
Thanks one and all :)

@djnippa: There's a fair bit of Omnia in it; with a few hints of Gaelic ... the whole thing rounded off a bit and slightly less brushstroke like.
Comment by p2pnut 4th july 2011
Amazing stuff. I'm looking forward to more characters.
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 5th july 2011
I was so smacked by this I tried to write incredible as my user name when I logged in to comment. 11/10 Nuff said.
Comment by intaglio 5th july 2011
:) Cheers guys.

I am not sure how to go forward with this.

Uncial fonts are Uppercase ... should I attempt a pseudo Uncial lowercase? ... or perhaps a few alternates in a repeated Uppercase?

The same goes for numerals ... I think I would be tempted to make them Old-style.

Over to you, the FS community. All suggestions gratefully received.
Comment by p2pnut 5th july 2011
Well, you really don't have to worry about lc. This alphabet is already complete. I would make a few alternative glyphs where appropriate using half uncials or Carolingian minuscules. For numbers try Insular or Beneventan script. You've already departed from the original Uncial script several times to make this wonderful Uncialic.

PS: Sorry about the double comment. I only clicked to refresh the page a few hours later.

Comment by Adien Gunarta (Adien Gunarta) 6th july 2011
Numerals added - hope to do some alternate caps in the future.
Comment by p2pnut 12th july 2011
Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “RM Uncialic” is now a Top Pick.
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 13th july 2011
Absolutely love the numerals. Superb! A very well-deserved top pick.

The single character I would like to see alternated most is a more asymmetrical or swerving take on ‘S’. Still fantastic, through and through.
Comment by William Leverette (will.i.ૐ) 13th july 2011
The numerals are fantastic and a perfect fit.
Comment by aphoria 13th july 2011
Thanks all - and thank you Mr M for the TP :)

@will.i.ૐ: I'll give that S a bit of thought, although I can't see me doing much for a few days as I have a lousy summer cold and don't want to risk dripping on the keyboard.
Comment by p2pnut 13th july 2011
@will.i.ૐ: I have attempted an alternate S - is that the sort of thing that you had in mind?
Comment by p2pnut 15th july 2011
I'm fainting. This is the best font ever made. The best font in history. I don't even have a reaction beyond shock. I can't rate this high enough. Infinity*3729453/10.
Every letter is beautiful. BEAUTIFUL.
Comment by Logan Thomason (xenophilius) 18th july 2011
That's things like this so I call p2pnut "maestro".
Comment by elmoyenique 18th july 2011
@p2pnut: please, look at your glyphs for the number 2 or number 3: they are some trash bricks between both, I think, dear master.
Comment by elmoyenique 18th july 2011
Thank you for the compliments :)

@elmoyenique: I checked out the 2 & 3 ... there was a tiny brick (part of a composite) just to the left of the 3. Thank you for spotting it.
Comment by p2pnut 19th july 2011
I still see a small brick lost in the bottom right of the number 2, maestro.
Comment by elmoyenique 19th july 2011
@elmoyenique: I think I have found the troublesome lost brick.

You must have excellent eyesight - it took me a while to find it :)
Comment by p2pnut 19th july 2011
10!
Comment by LexKominek 21st july 2011
Somehow I missed this magnificent font until now. Bravo, Ray! 10! 10! 10!
Comment by fontcollector 21st july 2011
Ray, the revised S is quite lovely! The only minor constructive feedback I can offer in resoinse is that it might benefit from a very slightly rounder and bolder hip on the outer curve of the lower spine. Just a minuscule optical correction will help balance the weight of the bottom of the character in addition to enhancing the already clever asymmetry.

I did not communicate well my original intention with the word swerving, and so your subtle and highly successful update surprised me. I intended to point toward the dramatic oxbow characteristics of many uncial esses, or perhaps something more high-waisted with a nouveau swash. Now, I really appreciate the simplicity, high legibility, and personal touch you add with this character. :-)
Comment by William Leverette (will.i.ૐ) 21st july 2011
OH MY GOD, THAT MUST HAVE TAKEN FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by ishallcallhimsquishy 22nd july 2011
@will.i.ૐ: miniscule optical correction added :)

@ishallcallhimsquishy: Not too long really - now I am wrestling with a lower case ... might be ready next week.
Comment by p2pnut 22nd july 2011
With nods and winks towards Carolingian and Insular fonts ... here is an attempt at a lower case.
Comment by p2pnut 24th july 2011
My first attempt at l/c used a slightly lighter weight than the U/C ... which I have finally decided just looked wrong.

So here is the second version of the l/c, using the same weight as the U/C.
Comment by p2pnut 27th july 2011

One of the best fonts I have ever seen
Absolutely beautiful
Comment by Josh Hejka (jhejka) 5th august 2011
For the record: this remarkable font has received the lowest rating (1) and consequently dropped from the top spot.

I thought the troll issue were behind us. Now it is back. I am very sad to see there are some people among us who think they can be the arbiters. They want to decide who can be the best and who is to fall. They conduct their primitive petty manipulations under the cloak of anonymity. How pusillanimous. Not dare to risk even their fake usernames.

If you have such radical opinion about the value of this font why don't you come forward and put your name behind it? Because, you are a nobody. If I were you, I would be gone.
Comment by Frodo7 7th august 2011
@Frodo7: What if the person who dropped the 1-bomb simply hates all uncial scripts and, upon seeing Ray’s gorgeous work at the top of the highly visible weighted ratings top pick list, exercised their completely valid right to despise all such scripts? Hard as it may be to relate to this perspective and opinion, especially in this case of a most beautiful rendering, it seems to me one of many other possibilities than the font troll scenario.

Love it or hate it, anonymous ratings from 1 to 10 are an inherent part of this site. Everyone with a user account can vote and by its very nature it is a more casual act than commenting. However useful comments may be, nowhere in the user terms does it say voters must justify their votes with a comment.

I say people should have a right to vote according to their own taste, even if they only exercise their right to give low votes, and Rob Meek himself has officially defended this position.

Still, I love this fontstruction! I respect its level of polish (even as it continues to be polished), appreciate Ray’s journey of self-critique and how he’s making ongoing improvements – and have a blossoming appreciation for the inspirations that are the wellspring behind it. I also wish more people would give useful constructive criticism.

I agree, then, on some levels. I empathize with your outrage. To me, this work clearly earns 10s all around – and many of us have agreed. So such a brazen act of potential vote manipulation for such a magnificent and richly detailed work (in progress) is outrageous enough for me to want to make many “Robin Hood” accounts to vote it – and others – back up into a well-deserved top spot! Better, yet, Rob can give this one featured fontstruction honors for being awesomely curvaceous! (And then really watch the low votes roll in. What’s the saying? The bigger you are, the higher you climb, the more people watch and throw stones from glass houses? Something like that...)
Comment by William Leverette (will.i.ૐ) 7th august 2011
Just to add there are also "trolls" on Myfonts.com. I had my first ones ! But i assume and respect the rating of maybe some professional irritated by such weird and out of norm works that insistently break the vision of what "should" be a font !
Comment by Abneurone Fluid Types 7th august 2011
@will.i.ૐ: You are quite right about many things. Everybody has the right to vote anonymously and give the fontstruction a value from 1 to 10. And yes, theoretically, there are many explanations why would anyone give 1 to the currently top rated font. Is it possible that someone did this because of loathing uncials so much? Yes, it is possible, but not very probable. Maybe the person just happened to be at the wrong place. Perhaps, he/she should not visit web sites where uncial fonts are not uncommon. There are other possibilities, plenty, and I would give them equal attention, if this were the first and only such incident. However, when there are three or more similar events, a pattern could emerge. We have lots of data about votes, all neatly stored and available on FS. And a
conspicuous pattern has been found. In fact, the troll behavior is well understood and documented on the same page (your hyperlink) by Gustavo Ferreira. Hell, there is a whole taxonomy of trolls.

It is no secret, I am passionate about typography, the sublime beauty of letters and the freedom of creative expression. I don't question the trolls' right to vote as they want. I question their character. We are not talking about some random down-voting of poor quality fonts. We witness a repeated attempt to manipulate the TP list aiming squarely at the best works. I think, such behavior is destructive and detrimental to the creative community. It should not be encouraged.
Comment by Frodo7 7th august 2011
@Frodo7: Again, we signed up for this rating system with all its rewards/pains when we chose to publish our work here. Comes with the territory, including the likelihood of being downvoted without ever knowing the explicit motivations behind said negative votes. I agree that such behavior can feel unwarranted, unsavory, and otherwise unfortunate, that it is far from a useful or noble way of offering feedback. But it persists, and has always been par for this course.

Where to go? We can’t ask the down voters to leave, even as we can call the characters into question. Let us then enact our own highest standards of decorum and constructive input.

Even our clever troll taxonomy fails to dissect the specific intentions behind a single vote. Rob stated that in-house analysis was done anonymously, and so no punishments nor corrections were made to the voting system other than eliminating naughty positrolling (in which case the trolls identity may have been indicated, but not disclosed). Nowhere has it been officially suggested that this trend of downvoting originates from a single source or a coordinated effort. Such a conspiracy was ruled out by the data, and seems to me an unlikely explanation of this ongoing trend.

I suggest we remember Ray’s comment in response to the official study on trolling:A negative vote doesn’t worry me, I’m a mature person who indulges in this wonderful program simply for his own pleasure. However it concerns me that these mindless trolls could knock the confidence of younger, up-and-coming ‘structors. It must also be galling for those in the FS community who are professionals in the design world to have their hard work denigrated in this way.I wonder, @Ray, since posting that comment you have taken your personal work to a professional level with releases on MyFonts. Has this altered your feelings about receiving negative votes?
Comment by William Leverette (will.i.ૐ) 8th august 2011
Oh dear! That old troll chestnut rears it's ugly head again.

@Frodo7: Thank you for your concern my friend ... but ...

@will.i.ૐ: I still stand by what I said before.

I must admit that I hadn't even realised that this font had been at the top of the ratings - let alone that it had fallen. My main enjoyment still lies in the creation process, not in any scoring process.

Having said that, I would add that I do get immense pleasure from the positive comments of my peers when a design meets their approval. Equally I am always open to constructive criticism and, in fact, have been grateful when people point out my mistakes.

It would obviously be better all round if the '1 givers' were able to give their reasons - I can only imagine that they are less able to articulate their thoughts - and we should always be caring of those who are intellectually challenged, shouldn't we?

With regards to my status as a 'professional', all I can say is thank goodness I am not reliant on that income for my subsistence. My main reason for dipping my toes into the commercial pond was curiosity. It is all well and good when thousands of people are ready to download a free font ... but where would my work stand if people had to part with money to get it? Well, so far, around 30 people have bought my designs (some being multiple purchases) and I guess that means that at least some of my work is saleable. However, as I live outside the USA, I have to wait until sales amount to $500 before I see any money and at this rate that will be sometime next year ... hopefully just in time to spend it on my soon to be great-grandson's first birthday :-)

So folks, stay cool, keep smiling, enjoy the FS community for the good that it brings ... and don't let a few sad little people upset you.
Comment by p2pnut 8th august 2011
Then again, requiring to give a reason for a "1" vote would just make people rate it a 2 instead. Those trolls go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that people are annoyed by them.

This font is a hell of a lot better than some of the pro fonts out there. Bravo. I salute you.

@p2pnut: Congrats! I repeat once again: "This superb kind of fonts lets me call p2pnut "maestro" with total guaranty"
(PS: -okay guys, although I know that he does not like to hear me say that about him, it's true, you're sure-).
Comment by elmoyenique 10th october 2011
This font is AMAZING!!! Can you tell me how to do those curves?!
Comment by Mario jr. 11th october 2011
Congrats on the Featured Download, Ray! Really superb. The font makes me wish I could see if you have hand-drawn calligraphy. The comments on this page make me wish there was a function to tag conversations on FontStruct.
Comment by geneus1 11th october 2011
Thank you will.i.ૐ, elmoyenique, Mario jr. and geneus1. The generous words of my peers are the greatest reward, although I must say that I enjoy being 'featured' along with those great designs by beate and geneus1.

@Mario jr. When it comes to curves I stand on the shoulders of giants ... the work of djnippa and aphoria who produced the range of angles require to effect a smoother curve. I have made these available as an FS: 'Angles' http://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/angles_22
Comment by p2pnut 11th october 2011
Ray, I want to add my congratulations for RM Uncialic's designation as a Featured FontStruction! Obviously, this award has been granted for all the right reasons. Cheers!
Comment by fontcollector 11th october 2011
I love this font, I can't believe how much devotion you have put into it. I have to stick to 7x7 pixel fonts because I can't have this much patience. ∞/10 :)
Comment by asup759 27th november 2011
it's very nice! (excuse my English)
Comment by Wadim 8th december 2011
You did a great work for this celtic font! Congratulations!
Comment by Tristana63 16th december 2011
This is stunning. I think the g could do without the serifs though.

@mario jr When I first started FS, I had no idea how to make curves like geneus1's Periculum or aphoria's Aurora Light. Then I slowly learned that curves like these really are composed out of a great number of angled bricks on quite a large grid. I am forever grateful to djnippa for making All Composites Saved in MY BRICKS, a font that uses all the possible angles. Also if you need extra help, I am about to release a font made out of "fake" curves that anyone can clone and discover how these curves work.

I hope you find this info helpful. By the way this is the longest comment I have ever posted.

Ha! I'm not that good! ;)
Comment by Agent Demonic Ladybug 1st february 2012
Imitation is supposed to be a form of flattery - but I was not very pleased when I discovered that a clone of this design has appeared on several free font sites under the name 'Huggles'.
This has been done by a so called web designer and fine artist by the name of Bruno Camargo.

I had, mistakenly, left the licence so that this design could be cloned ... not a mistake I will make again!
Comment by p2pnut 19th february 2012
I have the same problem with my font "zmorse xDad eYe/FS", I know your case. You must reclaim your authory to the webmasters where the stolen font was put. The copyrights are yours.
Comment by elmoyenique 19th february 2012
@elmoyenique: I have contacted the sites and Bruno Camago himself.
Comment by p2pnut 19th february 2012
The webmaster of DaFont.com still doesn't delete the font "Huggles" from the site.
Actually, the font "AriaPenci Roman" by kix has stolen too in several months ago. And I still can see it until now...
Comment by cablecomputer 24th february 2012
Good notice: I can't find "Huggles" at dafont.com. It was finally deleted (I suppose).
Comment by elmoyenique 25th february 2012
And another good one: I can't find now "AriaPenci Roman" at the dafont site. This guys of dafont are working well, IMHO.
Comment by elmoyenique 25th february 2012
Unfortunately DaFont is still hosting 'Huggles' - as are Fonts2u and Font River. WebToolHub are the only ones to have removed this clone.

Comment by RXF3496_FS10947 9th may 2012
@RXF3496_FS10947 I'd like to point out that your "time on FS" has been just under one week.

You must have been doing quite a bit of Gallery-sifting :)
Comment by demonics 9th may 2012
Thank you :) However - this is due to get much better, thanks to some incredible work done by will.i.ૐ ... watch this space.
Comment by p2pnut 9th may 2012
The addition of will.i.ૐ's initials to the name of this font is in recognition of the amazing work he has done in refining my clumsy original. He has brought a sublime sense of balance to it, together with subtle curves that almost defy belief.

I have attempted to bring the numerals into line with will.i.ૐ's characters ... but any lack of finesse in the numbers is entirely mine.

Thank you William - you have turned this into a design that we can jointly be proud of.
Comment by p2pnut 15th may 2012
An old spanish's refrain saids "Es de bien nacidos el ser agradecidos", something like "It's only right and proper to be grateful", will.i.ૐ knows this. This action honours you, Master. Thanks, you teaches all us in FS!

There y'go biki :)
Comment by p2pnut 18th may 2012
Amazing, thank you so much =)
Comment by biki 19th may 2012
Actually if I may be so bold and request another addition... A tiny little percent (%) is surely no problem for such a pro like yourself? =)
Comment by biki 20th may 2012
@biki : There's a pro version named RM Celtic available @Myfonts.com with 172 glyphs including "%" published under P2Pnut real name Ray Meadows. It costs 19$. If you Ray's work, he has published @Myfonts.com expanded versions (up to more than 300 glyphs) of some of his best fontstructions.
Comment by Abneurone Fluid Types 20th may 2012
@biki: I won't be adding any more to this font. As AFT says, a full version is available at a very reasonable cost.

@Abneurone Fluid Types: Thanks for saying that ... I was a bit too embarrassed to say so myself.
Comment by p2pnut 21st may 2012
Did not know that and fully understand. Thank you!
Comment by biki 21st may 2012

Comment by Rabbits... 27th may 2012
I came across this whilst searching for my fonts being illegally used on other sites.
Comment by djnippa 11th june 2012
@djnippa: Cheers mate - I have asked them to remove it. I guess the only way to stop this kind of thing is to make all my fonts Private - which kinda goes against the ethos of FS.
Comment by p2pnut 11th june 2012
it's a pity it don't has a complete punctuation and diacritics glyphs, however, it's an excellent font.
Comment by Valerio Francesco Borghi (valeriofrancesco) 1st august 2012
The description of Huggles says it is based on RM Uncialic by Ray Meadows. Maybe it was one of those clones where they just change the spacing or something... Didn't you make this cloneable at one point?
Comment by truth14ful 1st august 2012
@valeriofrancesco: The full font is available at MyFonts.

@truth14ful: Yes, it was cloneable for just a few days. Now you can see why I don't allow my fonts to be cloned any more.
Comment by p2pnut 2nd august 2012
Omg I can't find it on MyFonts searching for RMWL Uncialic! What do I do?
Comment by Valerio Francesco Borghi (valeriofrancesco) 11th august 2012
@valeriofrancesco : Search at Ray Meadows, and the Myfont version is called "RM Celtic"
Comment by Abneurone Fluid Types 11th august 2012
@valeriofrancesco - Here's a direct link:

I'd like to use the lowercase g for an Elvish (my own, not Tokien's) font I am making. Can this be made clonable?
Comment by jayiscool 21st october 2012
@jayiscool: I'm sorry, but I don't allow my work to be cloned any more - I have had too many passed off as someone else's work in the past. I'm sure that you would not do so, but I won't take the risk of others doing this.
Comment by p2pnut 21st october 2012
I totally understand. :) I've never had that happen to me personally, but I've heard about it. I LOVE this font by the way. I hope you don't mind that I used it on a fantasy map I did. If I post it anywhere I'll let you know and I'll be sure to give the due credit to you. Thx.

Thank you winty5. It was fun to do ... and has been selling well on MyFonts :)
Comment by p2pnut 25th november 2012
You said Pixar bought it. Do you think they might've used it on their new animation movie called "Brave"? I just noticed that it looked similar when watching that movie.
Comment by kassymkulov 7th january 2013
I haven't seen the film yet - but it hasn't been used for the trailers.
They probably bought dozens of similar fonts to choose between, so they may not have used this one.

Thank you MUROTANI - once the basic skills are mastered it is just a matter of taking care and time to produce the desired effect.

ありがとうございます - 基本的なスキルが習得されれば、それだけで、所望の効果を生成するためのケアと時間を割いての問題です。

I hope the Google translation is ok :)

How did you make this look so smooth? reminds me of Lord of the Rings font. Good job!
Comment by Reepicheep 30th march 2013
@Reepicheep: He used composite bricks to create curves.

I am in awe.

You turned me on to these really great fonts (including this one), as examples of creativity (which they are), but I am still scratching my head as to how the heck you managed to do this.

You should setup a tutorial so that bezier curve freaks can stop dreaming of spending $400 cash for Fontographer, because if you can do this with Fonstruct, there is absolutely no limit to what it can do.
Comment by SymbioticDesign 22nd july 2013
@Symbiotic Use hux'sus which is cloneable. It can be very useful.
Comment by Evie Atarax (j4s13) 23rd july 2013
@j4s13: hux'sus was cloned from this during the very short window of opportunity while William and I were exchanging info. It's one of the reasons why I do not allow my work to be cloned.

If you want all the composites used on this font, all you have to do is clone and use:

http://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/all_bricks_6

then just copy and paste the composites stored on the 'E' glyph into your own design. I cut and paste this 'toolbox' of composites into each glyph as I am working on it.

Wow, nice one. Can I have a question? Do these fonts support Middle European symbols? I am looking for nice font with support for czech language...

How do you go into such detail?

Comment by GamerBro26 16th april 2017

It's a really beautiful font; you've done a great job!!

Comment by gaudaurc 18th january 2018

Very nice font.. but I would dot the lower case I and J the I to avoid ambiguity with the lower case L and maybe a few other things but other than that it is a rather nice font, stylish with clean lines...

Comment by KaliGrapher 21st august 2018

if there was less ambiguity, like between the capitol case and lower case o I might use this font
