Another script experiment, again with a pinch of blackletter, but also with a solid lacing of rock'n'roll... For the fun/easiness of it, this was done with pre-2.0-features only. Funny how this already gives is an old-school feel. :)

A lot of refinement is still to be done... Suggestions are, as always, welcome!

And I will probably add some more latin characters soon...

Well done, once again!!! Another A+!
Comment by elmoyenique 26th july 2010
Wow, this is really fantastic. I love the angle and the thicks vs the thins and all the electricity angly bits. Only thing I noticed was maybe the lower bit of the c is a bit high making it look a little g-ish. But nice work!
Comment by nicholasgross 26th july 2010
Reminds me of the Gibson logo. I'd love to see a set of swash alternates.
Comment by LexKominek 27th july 2010
Thanks everyone, glad you like it... And thanks for the pink dot, Rob!

@nippa: Can't wait to see your Heavy Metal font! We should all bring our studded belts next time... ;)

@nicholasgross: You might be right about the c... The thing is I wanted to make as few letters as possible with a higher script connection like o, p, v, etc, in order not to break the jagged baseline too often. Lowercase c looked ok and readable to me, but I might have to look into it again. Thanks for the feedback!

@LexKominek: Something like this? (The thing with alternates and swooshes is that it really annoys me to put them on slots of other characters... Perfectionism in its negative way.:P) (And one more reason to switch to open type...)

Hot dang! This works so well ... as Nigel Tufnel says in 'This Is Spinal Tap' - "It goes right up to eleven". Sadly I can only give it 10 :)
Comment by p2pnut 27th july 2010
Awesome. I'm loving all these blackletter scripts. Highly usable and those ornaments really tie it together. Great work Shasta.
Comment by afrojet 27th july 2010
Thanks to both of you! Glad you like it...

I'm sure Nigel Tufnel would have liked the general feel of this font, p2pnut... ;) The Spinal Tap font BTW looks like it was made for a fontstructed revival.

And @afrojet: These ornaments where really just a style suggestion for LexKominek. Only two would be a bit shabby... So: there are definitely more to come!

wow !
Comment by zen_killa 27th july 2010
@shasta - Those are cool! I was thinking more along the lines of the 'n' in the Gibson logo or Bookman Swash.

I wonder if the FS developers are considering OpenType features.
Comment by LexKominek 27th july 2010
@LexKominek I'd love to add support for some OT features. But definitely kerning support first!
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 28th july 2010
Bravo shasta encore une fois ton travail est sublime

I like it a lot, the g is so well crafted. The design is simple and very very strong. I can see many usage of this one... nothing but a 10
Comment by Michel Troy ~UrbanPixel~ (Upixel) 29th july 2010
Great script+blackletter font, and the ornaments are a perfect complement!

The fact that was done with pre-FontStruct-2.0 features shows how masterpieces can be also accomplished with the simplest tools.
Comment by Em42 3rd august 2010
This is ironically sophisticated in its simplicity. Well done, shasta. Ditto what Em42 said.
Comment by geneus1 4th august 2010
Thanks for your kind words everyone!

@LexKominek: Some alternate letters with higher descenders/ascenders in the Gibson-logo style would be cool. I'll see if I can add them, but currently I don't even have the time to add the simpler ornaments...

@Upixel: Merci! J'attend toujours ton premier blackletter...;)

@Em42: I knew you would like this better than my other blackletter script with the treasonous bezier fakes... I am, as always, on your side. ;)

...and @geneus1: I do indeed strive for sophistication in simplicity, but that's probably less for reasons of inner conviction than out of pure laziness. Still glad it works sometimes. ;)

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “High Voltage” is now a current Featured FontStruction.
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 15th august 2010
is there an ß in there?
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 15th august 2010
There is now... Don't want to let the german heavy metal dudes down.;)

And thanks a lot for the Featured FontStruction! As always a great honor, and as always completely unexpected... :)

I'm sorry btw for not having worked on the ornaments and the alternates yet. I have moved to a new flat in a new town (without internet connection so far), and I've started working in your standard office job, leaving all the retrospectively much appreciated freedom of independent time-allocation that came with studying behind... In these first weeks, I've only had the time to occassionally peek on fontstruct.com to see what's going on during my breaks, but never to seriously start working on the extensions of this font, let alone a new font. Hope that will change sometime soon!

You are King Midas!
Comment by thalamic 16th august 2010
I mean that in a good way. :-)
Comment by thalamic 16th august 2010
I can see this font being used on the logo of a nextgen rock'n'roll band!

P.S. Now seriously, that's definitely a great fontstruction, I can wholeheartedly agree with it being selected as a FS staff Top Pick, as well as receiving a Featured status.
You guys just can't stop amazing me with your insane FS-ing skills! :)

Incredible work!

When I saw your font in the ad for the script competition, I was like, "Aaaaah, the computer is falling! Wait, no it's not..." This fontstruction is an epic optical illusion, dude!
