It took just ten years and six months, and the last day of a competition to dust off this experiment. Enjoy! :-)
Wow. Happy 'birth-day' dear Chiara ;) The latest comp is an excellent reason for airing your design, it's so well balanced. And: welcome back !
How did you color the inside in that sample?
@Brynda: I used strategically placed solid colours (using the space character) in the background (alternatively, one could use gradients or a photo as well). Another way would be to export the text as a vector or raster image and fill the blanks.

To do: slightly overlapping borders (or clear separation between blocks); expanded glyphs coverage.
