It reminds me of some typefaces seen on Football wear and some other sports gear. Nike and Adidas both had similar designs made for their stuff. I pretty much have allways enjoyed them!
Just throwing in some aditional idea, hope u don't mind. ;-)
What about making two aditional font styles for this, basically splitting up the font as is into 2 layers, striped and solid? This would allow some cool extra functionality.
