This took me many, many hours of trying, learning, erasing and restarting. Especially the design of the caps was hard; sooo many possibilities! However, i'm proud to present you my first real blackletter font :) I would like to add some more glyphs to the "more latin" set, but the size seems to be close to the download limit. It's downloadable yet, but i had to erase some glyphs... ps: there's an alternate "a" on "@", and some decorative stuff on "#" and "*". cheers

Supreme expression of the style. Gorgeous samples. Every. Single. Letter. Is. Beautiful.
Comment by minimum 4th June 2009
I'm going blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness! Unbelievable. My new favorite blackletter. Masterfully crafted. Beyond "practice." Oh, the beauticity.

That is so sharp you can get cut just by looking at i- OWW!
Comment by geneus1 4th June 2009
Baby, you were born to blackletter.
Comment by afrojet 4th June 2009
Damn.

The entire set is excellent, but the uppercase blows my mind.
Comment by aphoria 5th June 2009
Simply superb. Love the way the Upper Case has a 3D feeling about it.

I can understand about the hours & hours to do thing. I've got two Black Letter fontstructs waiting to be completed. The upper case is soooo tricky to get something contemporary, yet still retaining the old style.

Ieally brilliant effort kix. 10
Comment by djnippa 5th June 2009
yes, outstanding ;)
Comment by funk_king 5th June 2009
Holy Stuttgart, that is beautiful! When you said you were doing blackbetter, you really, really meant it. I'm going to go read the Gutenberg bible now.
Comment by thalamic 5th June 2009
Amazing!, love the lowercase, especially g,k,z...
The uppercase is just gorgeous! this is 10!
Really outstanding what you did here!
Comment by Axel Leyer 5th June 2009
thanks for your kind comments beloved communitiy :)
"blackbetter" was my first attempt on old styles. it will soon be re-published. stay tuned
Comment by kix 5th June 2009
... also das kleine zett is ja wohl ein oberhammer ...

here you can see, that the old monks drew modular letterforms ;)

kix = font-god!
Comment by guentersen 5th June 2009
I remember blackbetter, kix! You've come a long way! Extra points for having an umlaut in the font's name. :-)
Comment by SquarePeg 6th June 2009
!! respect !! very well crafted!

perfect 10.0
Comment by Ixel 6th June 2009
I wonder if we'll ever see a better blackletter in FS. That x! r! k!
Comment by intaglio 7th June 2009
pure perfection. i wouldn't believe this was made in fontstruct if i didn't see it right here.

i guess commercial font designers should finally start to be scared by fontstruct. fonts like this one are gonna make them lose quite a few clients.

nur das kleine w juckt mich mit seiner assymetrie irgendwie ein klein wenig im auge... weiss aber nicht ob mich die symmetrische version nicht auch jucken tät... das problem könnt also auch am auge liegen.;)
Comment by Tobias Sommer (shasta) 9th June 2009
Hi shasta. danke :)
so... i think it will stay as it is :)

no f***ing way this isn't a top pick yet. I got really disappointed by the recent dedication of the staff. it's like most of the recent really awesome fonts which should have been top picks were overlooked. also the new top pick is kinda boring compared to fonts like this beauty. i'd like to know if there's a way to become a staff member. i check the site like every day but it just isn't as much fun since the top picks just seem to be random because the staff seems to only check the last 2 pages of new fontstructions though they only visit the site twice a month or something. :(

About this beauty: Kix, get into real fonts, I know I propably repeat myself, but your talent is overwhelming. There's no way to tell what you'd be able to do with real path constructed fonts. ;)
Comment by David Neustadt (saberrider) 11th June 2009
Ditto what saber said. I can hardly believe you've even shared this one, kix. So first, thanks for sharing. I would have saved this fontstruction for a professional release. Shortly after you shared this, I was checking out other retail blackletter fonts. My main thought was that Underwörld should be among them. It reveals a sophisticated maturity in your work. It's brilliant.
Comment by geneus1 11th June 2009
Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Underwörld” is now a Top Pick.
Comment by gferreira_admin 11th June 2009
@saberrider you're completely right. there has been a lapse in top picking recently. this is a fantastic example of that! we'll catch up as soon as we can. the great news is, we've got a new staff member on board who will work on the top picks as well, as many other parts of FontStruct. he's just started so please be patient.
Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 11th June 2009
There is no doubt this is a landmark FontStruction. The missing Top Pick badge is as much my fault as anyone’s as I haven’t been able to dedicate myself to Gallery maintenance over the last couple of weeks.

Fortunately, with the addition of Gustavo to the team, such delays will be much more rare. Congrats on a fine piece of work, kix, and welcome, Gustavo!
Comment by Stephen Coles (Stewf) 11th June 2009
thanks again for the featured download!
Comment by kix 12th June 2009
kix, you're already a millionaire.
Comment by intaglio 12th June 2009
Kix, you've outdone yourself!
Brilliant fontsetting and the letters themselves are truly magnificent! :)

P.S. I didn't know that there is a size limit to the download files! Does anyone know more about this?
Comment by sahwar 13th June 2009
Comment by MustardMan 13th June 2009
And that was made only with Fonstruct? It's a really hard work.
Comment by chavez ravine 13th June 2009
Wow! This is wonderful. And a lot of work. Well balanced contemporary and traditional look. Please look at my (no top pick) "Tension" http://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/tensionwhich I thought was quite good until I saw this masterpiece. Respect, kix!
Comment by wolfkrim 15th June 2009
Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Wieder einmal ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel, was mit Fontstruct so alles möglich ist.

The more I play with Underwörld, the more I love it. Works great with the Braumarks.

Comment by afrojet 17th June 2009
Well done. This is one of the best fonts I have seen, and have seen many, trust me. I connot wait until this font is expanded a bit more (i.e. the characters @#$%^&*() etc). I hope you are proud of your work, because we all are. :)
Comment by Pingpong4497 18th June 2009
this is perfect in so many ways. not a single character i don't like. superb!
Comment by laynecom 18th June 2009

FABULOUS!!! And so readable! Whoa!
Comment by skysister 21st June 2009
I'm quite new to FontStruct and am still dabbling my toes in the 'shallow end'. Then I saw this font and realised that there is a whole ocean of possibility.

You have created a font that can stand proud against any ... whatever the design medium.

It's beautiful - and an inspiration to us newbies.
Comment by p2pnut 22nd June 2009
incredible. Upper case is fantastic. Great examples too!
Comment by jinx 12th August 2009
Nice One, many thanks ;)
Comment by Guyom 15th September 2009
can you increase the size of the 12 size! is too smal! =[

thanks!
Comment by DarkAge 15th September 2009
@darkage:

I don't understand
Comment by kix 30th September 2009
@kix: I suspect DarkAge has come up against the fact that downloaded fonts tend to look rather small in conventional text point sizes (12pt in this case, by the sound of it).

@DarkAge: You will just have to use a greater point size to achieve the effect of 'normal' 12pt - experiment with different sizes 'till you get the right look.
Comment by p2pnut 30th September 2009
i just discovered this! freakign amazing! congrats!!!!
Comment by Sye Robertson (SimonRobertson) 25th October 2009

Comment by COCCOBANANA 26th October 2010
I really love this font! It's the most beautiful font ever made on FontStruct (understatement)! Enjoy the sample.
Comment by Logan Thomason (xenophilius) 20th November 2010
Very nice, this must of been really hard.
Comment by jerrrivera 26th November 2010
Gosh, my sample sucks. I didn't realize it would display so small! Anyway, it's amazing how small you managed to make this! It's only like 15 pixels high! Great work, Kix.
Comment by Logan Thomason (xenophilius) 14th February 2011
Thanks Kix! Great work Luvit! :-D
Comment by badsneakers 13th March 2011
