My mother asked me to design a non-intersecting (no counters) polygonal alphabet for her to use as a teaching tool in her fourth graders’ math class. Of course, I immediately thought of fontstruct!

Here is a (somewhat refined) departure/sequel to the example design I created to help inspire their projects. :)

Alternates are included in the lowercase. Just letters for now...

Bump the zoom up a few notches in the preview widget to get proper hairline spacing. Enjoy!

Here’s the fontstruction I created for my mom’s class. It’s a very different design, largely out of respect for the original brief.

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Polygonal ii” is now a Top Pick.

This looks quite organic despite its origins. The alternates are a very nice touch. My mother is a (former) maths teacher too!

The photoshoppery defuses the stunning impact of a topnotch design. Cease and desist with those alluring filters! You can't do better than black and white. Shall I go take a jump now?

@intaglio: you are spot on about my excessive (and in this case exceedingly lazy) photoshop chicanery. sample rectified – now all i need is a decent name for this thing.

@meek: thanks, my friend. and long live all the teachers in our lives!

fontstruct is itself such an accessible and powerful (and more and more widely used) teaching tool, i can only imagine your mother is quite proud of your continued accomplishments.

happy 3rd birthday, fontstruct! :)

The font looks very juicy, maybe you could try a tiling with it. (Incidentally, my wife is also a teacher of mathematics at a high school. I think there are a few women involved in mathematics teaching near some of us. A warm greeting for them.)
