The idea is to represent counters with arrows. Letters with closed counters (e.g. D,P ) were first opened and only afterwards were represented by arrows.

This is phenomenal. Using arrows to represent the counters and inlets is an amazing idea; for me, it creates a sort of open-sky effect, almost like an airplane or spaceship is traveling at high speeds through the vast blue expanses of the letterform. The symmetries created are fascinating: C and D are a perfect mirror, which looks cool in the preview, and U also goes along (A could've too, but paired off with V instead); uppercase M and W share their shape with B, and almost E as well.

From a technical standpoint, this would definitely have been impossible to pull off this well just a couple of years ago; ⅛-nudging is crucial to getting many of the curves lined up properly. I'm still trying to understand how you created those three circles emphasized in the first sample—I think the middle one is 4x4 grid squares, but I'm barely understanding how you've managed to create a 2¼x2¼ circle, let alone 4½x4½!

The one humble nitpick I have is that the O feels a little too small when surrounded by other letters. However, I'm not sure that there's a good way to fix that while keeping the perfectly round profile. I also really adore the quotation marks in your sample for some reason, but I do wish that the flat, narrow parts (not sure what to call them) were just a hair shorter. Again, though, I don't know if this is possible on the tiny scale you're working with.

Overall, I really love the concept, design, and execution. Were I on the judging panel, it might be tough to choose between this and your Hachure, but it'd definitely take four somehow more phenomenal designs to release you from my top 4!

Wow! Great design! And sample is very nice:)

@JingYo @Wataru Aiso: Thanks, glad you like it.

@ETH: You raise a lot of good points. This works well with all caps only, actually the whole design started from D. There were no arrows at the begining, I tried to zip them, then I tried just putting nice round lines, but the arrows worked better.

I did change the comma and quotes ( it's possible ;) ), added alternate u, o, and you're right about O,o, three solutions are available now: UC O, lc o and zero (also possible to create mirror variants). I actually see one more solution but will probbaly make it later. There are also variations possible for letters like T,L with arrows pointing up.

Thanks for the feedback!

The (9/4)x(9/4) circles are possible by using the four circles then tiny composites filling in the (1/4)x(1/4) gaps...

Absolutely love it!

Sorry... I had a spontaneous association... :-)

Nice work!

A great idea, wonderfully executed.

Excellent design! I prefer the lowercase variations of MNOQW. The zero seems to have an asymmetrical shape.

Comment by V. Sarela (Yautja) Tue, 29th May

@V.sarela the zero has a horizontal line of symmetry...

Thank you for the comments and a cool sample!

I've changed the zero and uppercase O.

@77: I meant that the right side is bigger, but it has been fixed now.
