Inspired by the Maze Set. A technical fontstruction showing the usage for thinner macaroni bricks. The logic for possible counter relation:

1) Every letter is filled with thinner version of itself (self-pattern fill).

2) Outline vs Inline, emphasizing the "opposite" meaning of counter.

Great idea Archi and a good looking one too!!

Comment by Sed4tives 9th may 2018

This is great. How about an unfilled version? I love that unfilled 's' in "fontstruct" in your sample.

Comment by aphoria 9th may 2018

Have you seen my entry yet?? can you do a letter in a letter in a letter?

Comment by anonymous-1520403 9th may 2018

@Se7en: I once made one that fits that description of "a letter in a letter in a letter", but it had straight and diagonal strokes only and was a lot more consuming on the eyes.

This one in particular still is very subtle, which I like a lot about it!

Two extra strokes to make it "a letter in a letter in a letter" would probably drasticly alter it's appearence I guess.

Comment by Sed4tives 9th may 2018

@aphoria: Yes, I had in mind to make an inline and outline version of this so that it would be more convenient to create layered samples.

@Se7enty-Se7en: Yes, I have. And, no, I can't make that request. Though if you think about it, every inline or outline font is a letter within a letter, you just have to search for multiline fonts. You can check CMunk's Infix or my Venus for inspiration. Though my favorite at the moment is ALS Lamon.

@ Sed4tives: Thanks!

Inline and Outline versions published. The outline version is a very useful font by itself.

@Rob Meek and staff: It just occured to me (though I guess people already suggested it), it's be great to have "layered grids" on Fontstructor. Build a shape on one layer, switch to another, but the previous layer, while still visible, remains intact (locked) and you continue drawing over it. We might not need stacking anymore if this was possible. And even an option while exporting, to export each layer as a different font file.

Comment by kassymkulov 10th may 2018

@architaraz yes, exactly this has been an idea since the very beginning of FontStruct. We’ve had the concept of layers built into the system since day 1. So, yes, it’s on the todo list!

Can't wait to exploit!

Comment by Sed4tives 10th may 2018

Hey achitaraz, that's a very, very nice FS and a great sample.

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “KD Hachure” is now a Top Pick.

Thanks! I'm working on Glyphs with this. Will see how it turns out:

Is the letter that looks like a small capital B in the cyrillic block?

Comment by anonymous-1520403 15th june 2018

@77: Yes, it's "в", I put it there as a reminder that's it's possible.

Comment by kassymkulov 16th june 2018

I wonder if cyrillic is possible in this font?

Comment by anonymous-1520403 16th june 2018

(and maybe make T a bit wider...)

Comment by anonymous-1520403 16th june 2018

Of course it's possible, some letters might be harder to make but cyrillic is totally possible.

Since I'm remaking this with Glyphs some letters will look different (even the stem thickness etc.). I don't know why but I'm okay with the T for now. And I'm abandoning the overlaying effect on letters like S,s cause that seems like an idea for another font.

Version 1.001 is finished and will hopefully be on sale by the next two weeks on MyFonts and Fonts.com.

No Cyrillic for now, cause if I decide to make it, it will take forever and this project will be lost as all my previous works, so I'm taking a step at a time. Version 2.000 will probably be with Cyrillics.

As promised, this one's also been published as KD Hachure months ago, just don't have the time lately to make proper announcements: myfonts

@Se7enty-Se7en:

Yeap, pretty experimental solution I came up with so that I don't have to kern it.

Comment by kassymkulov 25th august 2018

Yeap? Real funny...

Comment by anonymous-1520403 25th august 2018

Congrats on the commercial release @architaraz!

Comment by Rob Meek (meek) 25th august 2018

@Se7enty-Se7en

Well, it was deliberate. I had no intent in making this a strict, serious font. It's decorative with playful and experimental elements.

@meek

Thanks. My intent isn't really commercial though, I know that this is no Proxima Nova.

But editing a font with Glyphs, publishing it on MyFonts is like me telling to my annoying perfectionist ego -  ok, it's finished, now move on! :)
