For some reason I want to call this style "contemporary machinism" (please don't expect a [reasoned?] answer should you want clarification); it looks like assembled by a robot yet somehow reflects the style of the late 1920s into 1930s. Rather good.

I wonder if alternates are possible (v, 8, w, m, etc.)

changed 8 because it was weird
For old style figures, the 8 usually goes above the x-height...
I love the design of this one! Just one quick question though, why is it missing uppercase 'H,I,O,Q,R,U,' and 'Y'?
