Happy Birthday
News | Rob Meek (meek) | April 1st, 2010
My, how you’ve grown!
On April 1st 2008, FontShop launched a free, online platform for building modular fonts called FontStruct. Over the intervening two years a community of over 270,000 typographic bricklayers has come together to create, share, download and discuss almost 260,000 modular type designs. Thanks to all of you for participating in this fantastic project so far.
Coming Soon
We want FontStruct to continue improving by adding new features and creative possibilities, and we’re currently preparing a significant update to the FontStructor font editor. We hope to release this update at some point this month.
The Wall
To provide some entertainment in the meantime, we’re releasing a new, fun way to experience the amazing diversity of FontStructions: The Wall. This is an experimental project, so please be patient, particularly while the wall is preparing itself, and forgive the occasional glitch and eccentricity. Before anyone asks, you can’t feed in custom text to the Wall at the moment — we’re not sure how our servers are going to react to the load — but I can, so here’s a little celebratory mosaic of 2s (click on it if you want the full size image 927 × 10226 px)

WOW
this is one cool wall!

Regarding “The Wall” could you guys make them in wallpaper sizes, in fact I don’t understand why there aren’t any FontStruct wallpapers for us to download…
– jmarquez — April 6, 2010 #
By the way, too many glyphs look the exact same, are you ignoring clones? You should ignore them in the next walls!

Wow!… You just made my day, Rob! This is one cool mosaic — er, wall. :-) Happy Birthday, FontStruct!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone!
@jmarquez. Yes it would be nice to make some wallpapers. They’d be visually very “busy” though – maybe we’ll need a separate color scheme for that.
You will see repetition in the walls. At the moment, the wall shows Top Picks only and there is a limited number of those, plus there are a few closely related fonts in there.

Yes I agree with the separate color scheme, perhaps Monochromatic.
But I’m not talking just about “The Wall” wallpapers, there should be fontstruct themed wallpapers as well :)

The Wall is exceptional in its ability to display the staggering variety. You’ve created the new Lego, Rob. Two already. Your baby is growing up. Glad to have been a part of it all. Happy Birthday.
I nominate afrojet to create the fontstruct themed wallpapers.

Happy 2 Year Birthday! I love this website and use it to create custom fonts for myself quite often. Also, I really enjoy the creativity on display here. Thanks for making this possible! :-)

The Wall is awesome, thank you for sharing this experimental feature! One request–please enable numbers as well (0-9) the same way you can print individual letters.
Big love and happy birthday!
