THE INSPIRATION FOR MY FONT WAS DRAWN FROM RETRO, MORE SPECIFICALLY FONTS USED ON COMPUTERS FROM THIRTY TO FORTY YEARS AGO. MY GOAL WAS TO ACHIEVE A SENSE OF NOSTALGIA IN PEOPLE WHO PLAYED THE FIRST COMPUTER GAMES. CODING ALSO WAS A BIG PART OF MY INSPIRATION FOR THE FONT.
This is my FontStruct created for the What The Font project on the UWE Graphic Design Course 2023. My intention for this font was to combine both English and Korean aesthetics. I made this font using the symbols of the Korean alphabet called Hangul specifically in a calligraphic style. It is named Seoche which is the romanization of ‘typeface’ in Korean.
A Font that pays homage to early 16th Century Gothic design in both Literature and Architecture. The sharp angles and jagged edges depict the ideas of the era and the pioneers of this time - bringing that into a modern representation with a serif style and italic Fontstruct.
I made this font in the image of 70s Bristol Grafitti/ Street Art. I was intruiged by the underground scene back in the day, and wanted to explore the way it was introduced and explored when it was first originating in Bristol. Another main part of why i created this font was to connect to the youth; grafitti is a big part of the youth culture of Bristol and i wanted to explore the history a bit, as well as the present community of Bristol. It was fun to create this design as i was able to explore both hand-rendered and graphics based desgining.
I am a first year student at UWE and was tasked with creating a font from scratch as one of my tasks. This task was very difficult as typopgraphy isnt something I have ever done before leading me to struggle creating something unique and interesting. The inspiration behind my font is 1980's ish jazz and blues bands/clubs. I chose this idea as Im a big fan of this sort of music and wanted to create something to celebrate the form of music.
