After choosing the theme asymmetric my thoughts went straight to the face of odin,because of the eyepatch, and since odin was the one that gave the germanic tribes their characters (according to the mythology) the idea of basing this font on ancient norse runes was born. I really wanted that feel of rough, stone carved feel, straight lines were a priority, plus I really wanted to give it the sensation of eroded and old. The name futhark comes from the first six letter of the runic alphabet. -

The axe was actually made using the font for the details.
