Softwoods and Hardwoods

There are two major classes of wood which are softwoods and hardwoods. They are not called so because they are soft or hard when you touch them. Softwoods tend to be lighter in color, they grow faster, and they are widely available. In addition to this, softwoods such as cider, white and yellow pine are conifers. On the other hand, hardwoods tend to be dark in color, they grow slowly and are quite pricey. Every season, they produce seeds and shed leaves. Hardwoods such as oak, ebony, birch, poplar, maple, cherry, and mahogany are flowering trees.

1. Maple

This is a hardwood that is widely used in making platform beds. This is due to its durability and strength. What is even more exciting about maple is that it does not wear easily, warp or shrink. It maintains its shape as long as you keep it well. This is high-quality wood for your bed.

2. Cherry

This type of wood is ideal for a platform bed especially the decorative ones as it’s easily curved. It has several advantages such as not warping, swelling or shrinking. For colors, it can be from light reddish-brown color to deep shade. Among the fruitwoods used in furniture, cherry wood is the best.

3. Mahogany

Considered as one of the best hardwoods for platform beds, mahogany gives a smooth finish. The fact that the wood doesn’t swell, it doesn’t warp or shrink and its durability has made it popular among platform bed manufacturers. Read more at https://stylowi.pl/junecarter/

4. Teak

This is a hardwood that is known to produce the most long-lasting platform beds. It’s estimated that they last up to more than 5 decades. If you are looking for a durable bed frame, you can never go wrong with teak which is brown in color.

5. Poplar

Although this is a hardwood that is used in interior furniture such as platform beds, it’s known to be quite weak. Appearing to be light tan in color, you will find that most manufacturers prefer this wood to make slats and ledger. Basically, for internal parts of the bed.

6. Oak

This is one of the best woods that can be used to make your platform bed for various reasons. If you are looking for a bed that will not stress you with fungal and insect infestation, oak wood is the best. It is resistant to this. What also makes it excellent for bed frames is its grain markings, its bending quality, its lifespan and the fact it does not absorb a lot of moisture. This is dangerous for the bed.
