I planned to make a three- or four line font using more or less the same parallel curves. It's still in my sketchbook, and there is probably no point to develop it any further, unless I could add to a new twist. There are times, when I get far more ideas than I could actually work on. I see letters and patterns everywhere I go. I record them in a sketchbook and let them maturate. There are so many I had to start to catalogue them. If I had nothing else to do they would keep me busy in the next hundred and fifty years, or so. :)) I wonder, you - as the most prolific designer in the FS Universe - have ever felt the same.
i think for me the challenge is being able to finish a basic 26 character set - either lc or uc - without getting bored or frustrated. that's why i usually only have a very basic set for most of my fonts. true, the additional characters don't really take that much more time to do - within a workable design. but i usually rationalize and say to myself its more of a demo version - to see if the design works, before spending additional time on characters that may not really add much more to the set. i guess since i feel most of my fonts are display, it's a different scenario for their use vs. text that definitely should be as complete as possible. but that's me:) and true even display needs all the glphys :)
another quandary is variations. i find many times different results can be achieved through various changes to an initial design. so should the initial design be preserved or should one experiment and release regardless? i'm so glad FS lets us do our thing the way we like :)
