Your solid versions reveal a slight stress in the letter shapes (top-right and bottom-left corners have more 'mass') – something I had not noticed in the original design.
Thanks, Gustavo. When you say stress, do you mean the slightly thicker lines that give the illusion of volume in the original FontStructions? I couldn't see the stress in my own sample, but it's definitely visible in the Fontstruct-generated sample. I suppose it's a result of adding the shadow/volume of the original drawings to the body of each character... I actually considered making a highlight version in which white lines would be drawn along the edges that are prolonged with a shadow. It would look something like this:
The "stress" comes from my optical correction for the shadows in the original stacked font. Basically I started with five different "tiles" - one with a square on the top layer, and four with triangles in the top layer (for each corner angle). I then built the lower two layers around that. So the distortion on the dark layer is more pronounced, since it is a shadow surrounding a shadow, surrounding a shadow. I hope this makes sense :-)

I don't want to give the highlight versions mile-long names, though... How does "Chocobot Dark Highlight" sound to you?
MMMMMMMMM!
