Taken from my FontStruction 'FreeHand'. Please download, rate and comment!
My gosh, tomorrow is last day for this fontout and we were so few to participate. Topic was very interesting yet!
I'm still working on my entry, will try to get it done before deadline.
Remember 'saratogajean', one of the most popular handwritten FontStructions?
Here it is.
@FontBlast // I don't think you should use others' fonts in a FontOut
Get your last entries in now! FontOut7 voting starts today, and ends 2 September 2012.
I didn't have enough time to post anything earlier because I was helping my brother with all these HD projects...
A lot of these entries don't appear to have followed the rules of appearing to be Handwritten, Graffiti, Brush Script or Comic Book. In fact I can only see one that fits the brief fully.
@djnippa // the FontOut does not say that you have to do those categories:
This FontOut:
(19th August 2012)
Handwriting! Write a letter or word that looks like it was made by hand. It can be graffiti, brush script, comic book style, etc. See how non-modular you can make it look!
It just has to be a word that looks as if it were written by hand. And what's wrong with a little creative interpretation?
I read the brief, and in my opinion, only one entry fits your description. It seems that everyone is just doing what they please, and misinterpreted the brief, rather than using a 'little' creative interpretation.
@djnippa // That may be true, but the topic is handwritten, which is hard do do modularly unless you're on a large grid. And I see plenty of good ones, like elmoyenique's or four's. Even AFT's shows a certain air of handmadeness.
I agree that not all entries really fit the handwriting category, but I guess we can vote accordingly. Easier theme for next time - I'll skip this one.
@demonics: Thanks to have underlined the "handmadeness" quality of these works, even if they defy classic typographic categories, because my approach is definitely not a designer one.
@DjNippa : i forgot why i left FS once, then twice, now i can remember.
@Abneurone. I hope you leave again. Please leave. I for one decided not to participate in any of these 'Fontouts', because of you. You learn nothing, you never improve, you annoy to the extreme. You need help, but refuse to listen to anyone. Your very presence and actions has frustrated everyone that has ever used Fontstruct.
My voting:
1. demonics
2. Isaiah Garcia's 1st
3. AFT's 6th
4. djnippa
5. four
@demonics: Does a public font also mean another's FontStruction?
@djnippa I agree. FontOut5 was just an extreme nightmare. However I still think my 'FreeHand' got the guidelines though.
The image I uploaded is not an entry to this Fontout. It was just showing an example of a Handwritten Fontstruct. Please do not vote on it. Thanks.
@djnippa, AFT // Was that necessary? If you two want to fight please do it via PM, thanks.
@FontBlast // I meant, please only upload your work.
I vote for FontBlast's "Handwritten" entry.
As has already been pointed out, it's the only one that complies with the brief.
@djnippa AFT can interpret the FontOut theme as he chooses. Whether or not he recieves votes is up to the voters, but he has a right to submit his own interpretation.
Being rude about it and telling him that the way he makes fonts, and that he should just completely leave the site is over the top.
I agree with demonics; if you two truly MUST fight, then do it in PM.
Although this FontOut has been interpreted quite strangely, considering the theme; handwritten, I still think there are a couple entries that did a good job.
I vote for demonics's entry.
I agree with freedom of choice, that goes without saying, but I just made the comment that - I thought it odd that very few had actually followed the brief.
Abneurone then decided to make it personal, by not understanding what I had said, and thinking it was directed purely at him - which it wasn't.
If I set a brief for "a variation of the number seven", would you be satisfied if everyone 'submits in their own interpretation' as you put it, the number six or five?
Well, no. I understand what you're getting at, though. I just wanted to make sure you don't unwittingly kick someone off the site because of him doing a lot of one style--we all have a right to use this site for what we want, even if it is a very similar style repeated.
1st place: four's "storylines"
2nd: elmo's "TREAT"
3rd: AFT's "modifications"
1st: demonics
2nd: four
3rd: AFT "modifications"
djnippa and others, including myself, grow weary from abneurone's incessant whining about his own lack of recognition.
If you're only here for recognition, then you better learn to make something that is worth recognizing.
Constantly criticizing others for making legible fonts and for not understanding your art is very annoying.
A good theme for FontOut8 would be 'Dingbats' I'm currently working on a barcode FontStruction, and I also have picture fonts PixelFace and Karmink.
If djnippa and AFT are going to fight, I side with AFT. AFT was the first person who befriended me on fontstruct.
Let's not make teams, winty.
@dm: Your right... sorry. I still side with AFT.
winty — No, I mean don't side with people publicly, especially if your only reason was because they helped you out. If you really must take sides, just do it in your own thoughts and know the actual argument they're in.
I'm sorry to bug you; I just didn't want djnippa to feel bad.
Ok...Sorry for being dumb
But really, what djnipa said was really mean. :(
