I guess you have used half-bricks and 'macaroni' bricks for your design (like in Left below). That will always restrict your options a bit. If you used a slightly larger grid and used full sized bricks you could benefit more from the flexibility offered by stacking bricks (Menu/Pen Type/Stack) - as I have done in the example on the Right.
