Nice shapes here. I think it might work fine if you increase the size of the lower case to the height of the a or e.

thank you, elmoyenique. I have implemented your design not only because i agree that it looks ok, but also fixes the problems I was having with the 's' and the 'z'.
Fine. It could also be applied to other letters like f and t... Do you plan to add accents and other diacritics?
i might, i just don't know what they would look like.
