I undertook this font to find out how to create curves using FS. The curves look fairly smooth up to around 36 point ... then the angles start to show up.
Still, I enjoyed the challenge and hope the result isn't too bad.
I agree with Frodo7 – the geometric traces of FontStruct give this design a very particular, interesting finishing.
Still, the non-alphabetic glyphs look as if they were made later, as an afterthought – I feel that they are not well integrated into the basic design style.
Thanks for the positive comments, it is really satisfying to get one's efforts rated in this way. The peer-review aspect of FS is great and can only help to sharpen the creative 'pencil'
Thank you as well Gustavo for the constuctive criticism ... I must admit I made up the non-alphabetic stuff 'on the hoof'. Not having a design background I am always grateful for any guidance :) Unfortunately the link didn't work and I would love to follow this up. Perhaps you would be kind enough to post it again.
I've recently browsed the list of Top Picks again, the best 1000. Judging by the technical merits Albion should have a place in that list: it could well be in the first 100, or even in the first 10. Originality is another question. It is based on Old English, and thanks to FS limitations it's a bit rough around the edges, and differs significantly from the original. As I said before, I very much liked this poligonal, crude, unpolished quality.
More Latin diacritics etc. added. Hopefully this will be enough. I am always happy to add any glyphs that are required for languages other than English ... and to correct any faults that anyone may notice.
At last, you've got the pink badge. Surely, it's been overlooked, because of FS' linear fashion as it displays fonts. At the same time your font jumped to the top of the Top Pick list with very strong ratings. I hope it will stay there for long. Congratulations.
Even at $1 each and a 10th of downloads then, that's a $1000. Or at $10 each and 1% of previous downloads, that's still a $1000. For no additional work.
Also, on a more fs related note: Top Picked but no where to be found in the What's New list. This is because What's New sorts fontstructions based on first shared date and NOT first TP awarded date. Kinda unfair to the overlooked fontstructions.
Thanks all for your support. I must confess I hardley ever look at the TP or What's New lists (nor had I been checking 1001 Fonts recently) so this is all quite a surprise ... and a great pleasure.
I was just trying to make this font or one like it. I have the old Speedball book right here in front of me. in the book it's called Speedball Engrosser'"Old Enlish". guess I'll try something else now. good job btw
@ Luuk Mölders: Absolutely true, the same thing happens to me, and it's just one of the many wonderful creations made by the great Master Ray Meadows, aka p2pnut! (Sorry, Ray, I wanted to say Mast*r.)

Maybe it helps to have a look at samples of other letters in the same style?

Oops, sorry about that. It was just a search for ‘Old English Letters‘ on Google Images:

Great job, P2pnut.
I`m jealous, but in a good way :)
Out of 20 votes, it has 19 10s!

It's strange because all my other fonts on 1001 Fonts seem to be around the 1000-3000 download mark.
well ithink this is comes close to playing in royal class ...
Holeymoley!
You need to stop giving it away for free.

Might I recommend myfonts.com.
