If something has a tactile nature it will appeal to children to play with it and 'squish' it. From this I explored how sponges are very squeezable and photographed them in different ways. Alongside this thought process I was also sketching water in letter forms and loved how it appears to have a squishy texture in itself because it is fluid. Combining these ideas, I experimented with cutting sponges into letter forms, applying paint, squishing them and creating a typeface based on the marks they leave behind on a laminate table surface.Starting%20from%20the%20word%20%27squishy%27%2C%20I%20thought%20about%20how%20children%20play%20with%20very%20tactile%20things.%20If%20something%20has%20a%20tactile%20nature%20it%20will%20appeal%20to%20children%20to%20play%20with%20it%20and%20%27squish%27%20it.%20From%20this%20I%20explored%20how%20sponges%20are%20very%20squeezable%20and%20photographed%20them%20in%20different%20ways.%20Alongside%20this%20thought%20process%20I%20was%20also%20sketching%20water%20in%20letter%20forms%20and%20loved%20how%20it%20appears%20to%20have%20a%20squishy%20texture%20in%20itself%20because%20it%20is%20fluid.%20Combining%20these%20ideas%2C%20I%20experimented%20with%20cutting%20sponges%20into%20letter%20forms%2C%20applying%20paint%2C%20squishing%20them%20and%20creating%20a%20typeface%20based%20on%20the%20marks%20they%20leave%20behind%20on%20a%20laminate%20table%20surface.

10 downloads10%20downloads1030 glyphs30%20glyphs30This typeface is based on the theme of Squishy. I wanted to create a more original inventive typeface for this theme. I used the Chesterfield sofas with the deep buttoning as inspiration and used that as a tool to create my own typeface. I worked on a medium to high scale as I found it difficult to achieve a good curve, which I felt was very important due to my theme of Squishy. I think this font would be used only for decorative use.

Initially, my research consisted of squishy items, producing very illustrative, specific results. However, I decided to experiment by folding printed letters. From this, I wanted to find a way to express tension created within letterforms and concluded with 'Discordion', to create such a disagreement between serifs and interior letter structure.My%20first%20FontStruction%20through%20UWE%2C%20based%20on%20the%20keyword%20%27squishy%27.%20Initially%2C%20my%20research%20consisted%20of%20squishy%20items%2C%20producing%20very%20illustrative%2C%20specific%20results.%20However%2C%20I%20decided%20to%20experiment%20by%20folding%20printed%20letters.%20From%20this%2C%20I%20wanted%20to%20find%20a%20way%20to%20express%20tension%20created%20within%20letterforms%20and%20concluded%20with%20%27Discordion%27%2C%20to%20create%20such%20a%20disagreement%20between%20serifs%20and%20interior%20letter%20structure.
