They were used in kumikō, a japanese ceremony/game about guessing different types of incense by smell. The number of all combinations of five elements is 52, but I reproduced the 54 symbols used to mark the Genji monogatari chapters, which contain the same symbol in two variations and a made-up one as well. I did the font because I think it was perfect for Fontstruct.
