Nice font Zhalgas :)
Aroth connected?
Beautiful, with Arabic flavor. Could the f do with a cross stroke?
Thanks.
Well, yeah, it is Aroth connected, but I made it without cloning Aroth for some unknown reason :). Why Aroth? I think it has some fresh shapes not always seen on FS. I've been trying to connect glyphs of Aroth since competition's announcement, but failed so many times. Today I somehow achieved it, and maybe this entry won't count since it was based on a previous work, but anyway, it's not entirely about the competition.
For me, this comp's theme is much more difficult and complex than the previous stencil theme.
There are some fancier versions of b,h,k on numbers, temporarily.
Beautiful font, the stroke under w and above m give it an elegant touch of Arab and there is great flow in the descender's link to the next letter.
We (who use cyrillics) sometimes put those strokes when writing ш, т, so that they wouldn't be confused with и, п when writing let's say тт, титт, шиш, ппи, and it goes on.
I didn't realize the arabic feel until you eagle-eye guys noticed it :). Thank you!
Has a really nice fantasy feel to it, and it flows great! Awesome :)
A beautifully flowing design. 10/10
I love this Jalgas. Strong sample
10
Wow, wise words!! And greaaat font too :)
Wickedly stylish. I love your use of propeller bricks in the connections and the implied dimensionality of the bridged loops. Script and stencil. Nice! 10/10
Thanks, will. And oops, I meant scriptcomp in the sample, ill change it tomorrow.
This is beautiful. If you want to make it perfect, you can do the "post-production" works in a font editor (e.g. FontLab) with relatively little effort. You may add Open Type features, such as contextual ligatures, as well. 10/10
Congratulations! This was a well deserved prize! You really are genius!
@architaraz: Congrats to you, compañero! I vote 100/100 all the judges’ opinions… and I must go beyond: You’re great!
Thank you, Winty5 and compañero Elmoyenique.
@elmoyenique: I remember going through all your fonts back when I was a newbie here. You works are very inspirational.
@winty5: That's nice of you, but I'm no genius, just a regular with maybe more "spare time" than others :).
Thank you ... your words make me blush.
Fantastic. I am really glad Jalgas is in the winner’s circle! :)
Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Jalgas” is now a Top Pick.
Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Jalgas” is now a current Featured FontStruction.
Great Congratulations dear friend!
Thank you meek, for everything. This was a very successful comp for me, all of my entries got tp, I was among winners and now a featured fs! And now that I have font creator pro, I may actually repay by developing this font further in coming months..
Hooray--new Featured Fontstructions! Congratulations to you, Upixel and four! This is one of my favorite entries. :)
Congratulations on being a Script Competition winner, architaraz! Here’s the sample I made for the results blog post, posted here for posterity.
Thanks! I like everything in it, the words, the colors, sizes.
I like your sample Steven!
@architaraz: I agree, it looks perfectly and really shows off this great font!
I've received the book and fontstruct stickers, which will now remind me of fontstruct every time I open my laptop. Thank you!
Great Archie! (it looks I have a new name to call you) Enjoy the book!
Congrats! You are very lucky, Archie ;)
I hope you learn some good font design tips in that book.
And, Font Creator Pro? Your lucky! I only have a trial version of an app called Glyphs, and I'm still having trouble getting the hang of Bezier Curves that are not FontStructified.
That is a sexy 3 on the book cover.
Well deserved :)
Thanks, everybody!
@cablecomputer: Archie? Cool! I'm fine with that :)
@winty:
The book is concentrated mostly on Text type, which I know nothing about, so, it's a great book for me.
Yes, I've been trying out some font editing software, and since the release of font creator pro 7 with major updates, friendly user face and a price tag, I decided to go for it. I will try to upload finished fonts to myfonts.com, if they, of course, accept them, and will notify all you fontstructers if this miracle happens.
Glyhs? I never was a Mac user, so... But you're a child, you can use it and ask your parents (grandparents) to buy it for you, I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than Mac Book or an iPhone ;)
No, I think Glyphs is like 50 dollars wich is a bit out of my proce range ($0-$15)
BTW, Good luck with MyFonts. I hope you can get a lot of money, Archie! If MyFonts doesn't let you in, you can put your fonts on Dafont too, at least that's what I did when MyFonts rejected me.
Personally, I have like $550+, so not a big deal. But I have lots of allowance, and I don't buy much, so don't worry if you don't have the money. It seems a little expensive.
congrats on your winning entry and receiving your prize - i'm sure no words can really describe the feeling. this is the type of work that blows the mind and makes you see fontstruct in a very different light. sometimes i wonder if many of the entries in the comps that have been held might never have been created if not for the comps. but very glad this one was.
also congrats on your purchase of fontcreator. i have trialed it in the past and will probably purchase the new version soon. i found it very easy to use as far as editing fontstruct generated ttfs and kerning. never tried to create a font using it, but have experimented with other methods.
oh, and i don't think you will have any problems getting your work on myfonts. it's just some paperwork and procedures to go through. good luck and keep up the great work.
Thanks winty5 and funk_king.
How ironic, today I've received e-mail confirmation from MyFonts! They've accepted my font Argyn (I've decided to start with it, it was a bit easier to edit), and I'm currently in the process of filling and signing contracts. So, you my friends will hopefully witness most of my fonts transforming into a more or less completed work there in coming excited times. I'll upload some samples to Argyn's page, and maybe Behance.
Thanks again for the support!
These are the kind of steps that I believe could lead to an official fontstruct storefront. If MyFonts can take a cut your sales, I think FontStruct also deserves to negotiate such an arrangement with willing fontstructors.
So – go for it, Archi! You’ve got a distinct and soulful voice in your work. I admire the steps you are taking now to raise your profile and to get your fonts out into the world beyond fs and the free font scene.
Perhaps sitting with this admiration will help to thaw the internal blocks obstructing my own path toward professional legitimacy. Lord knows (and others, too – you know who you are) I’ve had ample support and encouragement to launch myself, to sail forth in that general direction...
Good luck (especially with the forms!) ... MyFonts can sometimes take a while to sort out the formalities. However, once you are in, their Foundry Support Team are great.
@will.i.ૐ: I would be more than happy to share sales profits with FontStruct if such a storefront could be arranged.
I'm sure Rob et al are busy enough with their day jobs as well as continually maintaining and developing FS. I wonder if there is any mileage in FontShop creating an outlet - with profits shared between them, FontStruct and the font author. Just a thought.
Cool! Congrats!
I hope you make LOTS of money!
Why MyFonts? Why not FontShop?
If I ever get to that stage where I could have anything good enough to "sell", my first and only choice would be FontShop.
@thalamic: How about BOTH of them?
I can't see the font but hopefully it will be up soon!
Thanks, everybody for encouraging comments!
@winty5: Thanks but, nah, I doubt that freelance "designers" like us can make a lot, I'll be satisfied if I'll be able to pull money worth one t-shirt/month :) It's actually about finishing what I've started and also what will.i.ૐ says: "to get your fonts out into the world beyond fs...".
@p2pnut: Thanks! And you're right, they do have really supportive personnel, just like here.
@thalamic: Err, Fontshop... I thought they accept fonts ONLY from professional, real registered foundries like Monotype, Linotype etc. But MyFonts doesn't prohibit selling through other retailers, just have to put the same price tag, so...
Very nice font. Keep it up!
I'm late to the party on this one, but man is this beautiful.
FontShop's not interested in my fonts, so there goes the answer for your question, Thalamic :). But if you ever decide selling through FontShop, you go ahead, I'm sure they'll accept yours.
Well. Er...
I really dunno what to say.
It would be enlightening to know why they wouldn't.
I'm sorry anyway.
PS: I've never tried 'selling' my fonts anywhere. FontStruct is the only place I've ever created online fonts and the only place I've shared them, other than the odd facebook and behance links, which all point to fs anyway. If FontShop wouldn't accept one fontstruct user's fonts, I'm sure they wouldn't accept another user's fonts either. Plus yours are way cooler than mine, so mine are even less likely to be accepted.
You have so many fonts that would sell Ata ... why not give MyFonts a try?
I'm not ready. If nothing else, kerning alone is
I was attempting to push the Cancel button. See how not ready I am!
WOW
Super! Could you make it for ciryllic, please (I'm Ukrainian)?
hi, your font looks great. I have a question is it possible to trace the font which was designed in illustrator by me. bringing has jpg or png on back??
Thanks, RamchandMatta. Please follow the following link for general questions about typography:
