In the perfect world of FontStruct, they work beautifully. Before we\u2019ve even started, we have a winner!<\/p>\n<p>The results of our recent Twitter poll:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What should be the theme of the next FontStruct competition?<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; FontStruct (@FontStruct) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FontStruct\/status\/992004847628144640?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Counter it is \u2026<\/p>\n<h3>Competition Brief<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fontstruct.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/counter-comp.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3414\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-blog-post-full wp-image-3414\" src=\"https:\/\/fontstruct.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/counter-comp-700x163.png\" alt=\"Counter Competition FontStruct\" width=\"700\" height=\"163\" data-wp-pid=\"3414\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our theme is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Counter_(typography)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Counter<\/a>: \u201cthe\u00a0area of a letter\u00a0that is entirely or partially enclosed by a letter form or a symbol (the counter-space\/the hole of)\u201d as wikipedia describes it.<\/p>\n<p>What goes on within those little pools of nothingness inside your letters? Are they empty, or filled? Does their surface swallow all light, or shimmer or glow?<\/p>\n<p>Of course you can choose any other sense of \u201cCounter\u201c (arithmetical, political, military etc) if you wish. \u2013 You don\u2019t have to pursue the typographic angle.<\/p>\n<p>Potential sources of inspiration could be our sets: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fontstruct.com\/gallery\/set\/5\/filled-counters\">Filled Counter<\/a>\u201d, or \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fontstruct.com\/gallery\/set\/42\/pattern-fill\">Pattern Fill<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Competition Time Period<\/h3>\n<p>Wednesday, 8th May 2018 \u2013 Saturday\u00a01st June, 2018<\/p>\n<p>Competition Rules<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You must be a registered FontStruct user.<\/li>\n<li>Your submission(s) must be posted and made \u201cpublic\u201d between 8th May 2018 and 1st June, 2018. Although you are encouraged to share your submission(s) at any time between these dates, your FontStruction submission(s) must be public (marked \u201cshare with everyone\u201d) no later than 1st June, 2018 at 11pm PST. Additionally, your submission(s) must remain public at least until 10th June 2018 in order to give the judges enough time to review all qualifying entries.<\/li>\n<li>Your submission(s) must be tagged with a \u201cCounterComp\u201d tag. (For fairness, during the competition time period, no FontStruction with the \u201cCounterComp\u201d tag will be awarded a Top Pick.)<\/li>\n<li>Your submission(s) must be downloadable. If your FontStruction cannot be downloaded, the submission will not be\u00a0including in the judging.<\/li>\n<li>Your submission must be a newly published FontStruction. Simply adding the \u201cCounterComp\u201d tag to an already published font is not allowed.<\/li>\n<li>For each submission, you must post at least one sample image in the comments of the FontStruction.<\/li>\n<li>No letters in each submission can be MORE THAN 48 grid squares\u00a0high.<\/li>\n<li>FontStruct cloning is permitted but the judges will be looking for original work.<\/li>\n<li>You may enter up to three FontStructions to the competition.<\/li>\n<li>This is a friendly competition. Cheering, favoriting and fun banter is encouraged but cruel and uncivil behavior will not be tolerated.<\/li>\n<li>No rules regarding licensing. You may choose any license you like for your FontStruction.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Judging and announcing the winners<\/h3>\n<p>All qualifying FontStructions will by judged by the FontStruct staff and guest judges between June 2nd and June 9th. Three prizewinners will be chosen. One of these will be the FontStructors\u2019 Favourite.
