My typeface is an angular and bold sans- serif typeface based on and inspired by the cranes at Bristol Harbor. I attempted to mimic the shapes of the metal work on the cranes. It is industrially decorative theme, inspired by mechanical objects and cranes discovered across the urban landscape of Bristol. It was developed over a series of hand rendered live drawing sessions and experiments. As the research and planning developed, the resulting type became sketches to a more refined and simple final outcome.

An update of Big Fat Shaded, using bricks that weren't available during its initial release. Diagonal shadows are now a little thicker. I've also re-drawn a few letters I didn't quite like, and added numerals, a period, and a comma. As always, lowercase is the fill layer for the uppercase.This is a clone of Big Fat Shaded

"Blimey!" is a typeface inspired by the 1970s Punk movement- paying notice to the political, economical and social issues of the time and how they affected what we commonly refer to as the “Punk Aesthetic”. Ransom note lettering, stencils, silkscreen printing and the appropriation of current cultural imagery aided the movement to deliver its important message of rebellion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Starting off with the theme "Dangerous", my focus for this project drifted to the definitions of both “rebellion” and “anarchy”. This naturally led me to the Punk movement and how it’s graphic style has been adopted into contemporary design practice. These graphics were often rough, raw, weathered and distressed- all of which I’ve tried to incorporate into my own type’s design. Ironically, the fact that this “style” is being used for commercial gain goes against the very foundations of Punk itself. This realisation spurred on the font’s name Blimey!, an ironic expression that is perhaps the furthest away from punk itself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This typeface would be best utilised in consideration to posters, flyers and possibly book covers (providing the content matches the attitude of the font). Thank you very much, all comments are welcome!
It is very boxy/ bold typeface with dots to bring out the letters itself. Giving it a gamy feel to it.
Long live Art Deco!
This is my second attempt at mixing classic "Vanity Fair" angles with industrial gothic sans titling. Kerning issues everywhere... but I really like those edges!!
Based on a logo of former Belgian company "GANDAGAS", made for a model railway project. For fun I added the letters A-Z a-z (alpha version, no numbers and punctuation etc. yet).
This is my first font. I have gone for a cold, metally feel. Also, note that I only made this in a 4 wide by 5 tall area, so it may look a bit cramped, but do not panic.
I wanted to create a very brutish display type that could be used in a project, my influences were early 1930's fonts like futura black and braggadocio as well as Compacta from the 60's. its yet to be finished.
Font I needed for the GSpace logo. It's a simple monospaced type, always handy.
Inspired by alternative band, Devo. Specifically their tendency to describe their hometown of Akron OH as an "industrial wasteland". Converting the idea of industrial wasteland into a typeface, the result is cold, impersonal, and mechanised.
Triangular is a conceptual font in triangular shapes for my Spacelab logo and project. With this font I hope to gain more knowledge on word forms, to extract glyph forms for future use.
Inspired by the condensed gothic typefaces, I wanted to create something similar,but more industrial and blue collar, without slab serifs.
Using just a 4x3 grid for most CAPS means the curves you see are curves. Slight calligraphy feel to wedges and curves on many letters. A black weight font with short descenders enable it to work with little leading, if necessary. Regimented but with curves and wedges!
My first attempt at designing a font. I may go back to it and tweak it. Any constructive criticism welcome. If you can find a use for it, great. The cap size is 8 blocks high by approximately 7 wide.
