A very ugly, uneven font. I was very bored. If you like it though, you can download it.

These are all of the letters, numbers, and symbols that I could find in my research. I hope that they are accurate and that this font will provide you all with a basic Braille font.

Geometric type, made by modular repetitions and squared dots interrupting the straight lines. Good for futuristic short texts and titles.

It is very boxy/ bold typeface with dots to bring out the letters itself. Giving it a gamy feel to it.

A clean, simple font. Easy on the eyes, and a great font for dyslexics. Easy to read, easy to distinguish each symbol.

The theme I chose was 'Decorative'. It's my first font that I have created using Fontstruct and is based around an iron fence that I came across that was very art deco. I initially used a lot of circles, and then found the font wasn't legible when constructed like this. As a result I used minimal circles of the same thickness to the rectangles for the basic structure. I left spaces when joining them which I thick modernises the font as well as the varied height of the crossbars. Which was determined but the width of certain shapes. I used the typeface Arial as my basic foundation for this font as it is simple and for starting off on fontstruct, recreating Arial is comfortably achievable using the shapes provided.

Following the theme 'Decorative', I explored the aesthetics of 1970's wallpaper. This lead to finding lots of primary and secondary sources, which I narrowed down to two patterns. I noticed a mixture of curvilinear and geometric patterns. At this point, I realised that 'Decorative' does not necessarily mean curvy and swirly, so I decided to attempt geometic, but with a sort of curvilinear feel.
My main struggle was creating a design that wouldn't require too much pixelation. Creating swirls of a large size just wasn’t achievable, without using a humongous grid to cancel out the pixelation. If I had known that Illustrator would display my font to the quality I was looking for, I would have used a slightly smaller grid so the inside pattern stood out more.

This started as an army font that I sort of decided to scale down and curve a little bit.

The idea behind my font is having a shape then bending it round continuously without any breaks/gaps to create the letterforms. I have always enjoyed working with circles through out my design work and it so happened to be a recurring theme through out my font. I experimented many ways on creating circles using FontStruct - this proved difficult. I did some research on how other designers created their circular based fonts. Many used the circle bricks by nudging and layering to create an illusion of a circle. I feel that my font could be used both large and small scale. In large scale you can see the non-smoothness of the curves and makes it seem caterpillar like which may appear ugly to some. In small scale it is the opposite - the circles appear perfect and the curves look smooth. My font is very simple which makes it legible to read in both scales.

My chosen theme was the word ‘continuous’. This led me to look at rope and the circular patterns within lace and doilies. The typeface embodies the repetition and intricacy of lace but also the strength of rope through it's geometric style structure.
