this is especially tasty in small pixel sizes! thanks for attention!

I produced this for my "communicating with words" first year module on the BA(Hons) Graphic Design course at UWE Bristol, England. It pays homage to Ralph Steadman and is a true testament to what you can do on fontstruct, if you’re willing to spend a week in front of a computer in your underpants.

My final say on current competition. Jalgas (Жалғас, Zhalgas) is my name, it means continuation, adjacent. Same technique as in Aroth, but the result is hopefully different. Letters are also stencil, but islands appear when forming a word (e.g. "off"). In progress...

I used a high-resolution grid and lots of FS 2.0 features to create this.
The x-height is 132 grid squares.
I used many of the new angles enabled by FS 2.0 (1:8, 1:6, 1:4, 1:3, 2:3) in an attempt to create very smooth curves.

I started this Fontstruction with a blank canvas and blank mind, and decided to draw my phone (guess which one that is!) to just warm up. Before I knew it, the idea for the whole design was staring me right in the face. Hopping around the internet, looking for images and information on which phones to draw was great fun. Who knew that the first ‘personal communicator’ was the IBM South Bell Simon, which combined the features of a mobile phone, a pager, a PDA, and a fax machine. Yes, you read that right! The Simon was also nine inches tall.

a type of being that frequents the fontstruct website and takes great personal satisfaction in the down-voting of fonts that have been created on fontstruct and in particular those that have received the pink dot. generally lacking in creatively and usually mentally, emotionally and physically unattractive; these "individuals" give themselves a boost of self-esteem by trying to denigrate the accomplishments of others. they have no real power in their feeble lives, but they usually get an immediate "rush" or "high" seeing the rating of a font lowered due to their actions, but ultimately become even more depressed and self-hating upon the realization that they can never achieve what others appear to do quite easily. they have fontstruct envy. they also know subconsciously that they don't have any talent, but instead of using their energy in a positive manner to develop their creative skills, they wallow in the mud and filth of their secret jealously. to use a twist on an old saying - those who can fontstruct and those who can't. period.

Redesigning the pixel font. Built on a 50x30 grid, this masterpiece is a pixel font that is decomposing. Enjoy! Each "pixel" is 10 by 10 grid squares. The idea was from "Metropolis" by ackfla.

That's my handwriting. Scanned a piece of paper with a handwritten alphabet and redraw it as exactly as possible. I know it's sloppy but that's the effect I wanted and my handwriting is in fact very sloppy.

Much like MinimalBloc, Leaflet works better when the modular pieces are revealed.

My shot at negative space with 2x2 filters. Far from perfect, but it was fun. Teris means vise-versa. Thanks & Enjoy!

I began by exploring the theme of decaying objects, such as fruit, and studied the shape (and change of shape) of the objects, as they progressively fell apart. By creating hand drawn sketches i began to create a typeface that looked as though it was rotting/melting away. I used a traditional typeface, Times New Roman, that could be considered as quite boring and a font which has been around for a long time and then used it as a base font which i then made to look as though it was rotting and falling apart by refering back to my earlier sketches. Overall I aimed to create a typeface that represents the decay of an older, more traditional and perhaps overused typeface.

This fontstruction was started because I suddenly got fascinated by triangles in Emigre's Matrix font. The triangles got lost somewhere along the development...leaving this hodgepodge of serifs. Look closely, almost all the serifs are different. The question is, which works the best? That's where you come in. Help me decide how to proceed.

If you want to create cool Letterings, try Underground!
This was inspired by Pincoya Black Type by Daniel Hernandez. You can write letter by letter using the Uppercase or you can connect every character using the alternates.
Please take a look at the example, then you´ll understand the idea!
Lowercase are alternates of the same letter or a different letter. >=alt.B, <=alt.D, @=alt.T
Underline:=+, Overline=*, Filter: 1,6.
