I have researched and explored the Japanese art form: Kintsugi which involves the restoration of broken pottery through connecting the broken parts with liquid gold, creating something new and unique. This art form allows us to embrace the beauty of flaws and imperfection, and through each letter I have attempted to recreate the rough, jagged lines of the broken pottery, and the cracks of 'gold' which bind them together (shown through the white lines). Any comments/advice would be really appreciated.

Buildings constructed following the Second World War were built using new technologies of construction. These types of designs were known for their use of modern materials such as concrete and steel as well as their interesting geometrical forms. I was heavily influenced by the architecture featured in Owen Hopkins' book 'Lost Futures' which looks at the disappearing architecture of post-war Britain and how changing external contexts played a role in the subsequent destruction of these buildings.

I ensured that my letters abided by the rules that Harry Beck set while designing the map - horizontal, vertical and 45° lines, and incorporating circles into my design. I wanted this typeface to have a friendly feel and to reflect the theme of the community through the idea of connection.

I looked at the structure of skateparks and reflected the curves and flowing arches found in these ramps and bowls. I also explored concrete as a skatepark material and incorporated it's association to Brutalism. This contrasting, combination of brutalist, angular geometry and the movement and flow of skatepark structures created Brutal Bab!

For this, I poured water onto different surfaces/objects with varying shapes to capture the cascading effect as reference images. Originally, I was first inspired by watercolour strokes to make a gradient effect, which developed into the idea of water fountains used in contemporary architecture.

After breaking down the word and it's different possible meanings, I decided to try to create something that is not only exaggeratory, but also creepy in appearence. After looking into the idea of a creepy font, I came across an article on the Kolwoon Walled City, in China. This city was a very condenced hgih rise place which was abundant with crime, and was the stomping ground for the Triads in China for many years. The concept of this grimy and clostrafobic place teeming with crime is what led to the creation of Kowloon Condenced. The hgh rise appearence and cluttered detailed little houses is quite uncomfortable to look at, or even possibly put the viewer on edge, which i think easily relates back to my theme word of 'lurid.'

Basing it on Neurons being formed into a typeface, showing how they can be manipulated in various ways. I found this topic very interesting to look into, as Neurons send electrical signals throughout the body, and as humans we communicate through language.

The style is unconventional and unpredictable. Jamie Reid created a lot of typographic pieces using magazine cutouts which is something I also wanted to replicate in this font.

The idea to make a font that looks like it is dripping comes from the imagery I found in my research into Heavy Metal logos. The Halftone Gradient effect I decided to use was inspired from my experimentation in fontstruct with trypophobia, the fear of looking at small tightly packed holes, leading me to create my font out of black dots.

In my brainstorm I came up with the idea that people sometimes use the word filthy to describe a drop in a song, which then lead me on to researching festivals and raves as they are filthy environments. In my research of raves I confirmed the most filthy place is usually the floor and how rubbish is scattered about. This then gave me the practical idea to go outside grap dead leaves and pour them onto glue which spelt the word filthy. I then copied the out come next to it which then i developed onto Fontstruct.
