A font that tries to mimic the anaglyph effect that makes images appear 3D. Red and blue are the most common colors for this technique, but green and magenta work as well. If you had the right pair of 3D glasses, this might look different.
SbB Lightbright is best viewed against a black background. Inspired by old Lite-Brite toys, this design uses a single round module to create a whimsical design. Uppercase letters are in a higher position, while lowercase letters are dropped a pixel. If you want your letters to have a bounce pattern, just alternate cases.
This plaid pattern feels like a flannel shirt that a lumberjack would wear. I think I've purchased wrapping paper with this pattern. And I know my wife has some pajamas in this plaid. It took a few tries to get the pattern scale right, and figure out how to get the pattern to best repeat across the letters. In the end, I've got a font that looks like a throw pillow from a "rustic" Airbnb.
In 2009, I made a black and white nautical flags set called Foxtrot Sierra. I finally got around to revisiting it with color. I've made a number of refinements to the Foxtrot Sierra design beyond just adding color. One note, the numbers should be pennants, but I decided to stick with my wider rectangle for this font.
(Foxtrot Sierra is FS in the NATO alphabet for FontStruct. Charlie is C for color.)
This is a clone of Foxtrot SierraA blackletter-inspired unicase design. I'm thinking this will look good on certificates, diplomas and all sorts of official documents where readability is secondary. I've got some spacing adjustments to make in the punctuation.
SbB Astrometric Narrow is another attempt at a lowercase inspired unicase design. Really short ascenders and descenders. Still a work in progress. (I'm happy with the basic structure, so this is probably a prototype that I'll refine in Glyphs.)
I was looking for an excuse to play around with color layers, so I colorized one of my old Dingbot designs.
This is a clone of Dingbots and Monsters XLA bold and angular unicase design. I was helping my daughter with geometry homework and started sketching this out on some grid paper. I've fleshed out the character set a bit, but I'm still planning to add more.
SbB Directorate is my typographic ode to science fiction bureaucracy. Directorate is named for the government in the TV “classic” Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. From the Alliance in Firefly to the Federation in Star Trek, the bureaucratic government is a theme through science fiction, and I always imagined they’d have a typeface like this…
A more narrow version of my first Timepiece design.
This is a clone of SbB TimepieceHonda released the Urban EV concept car at the 2018 Frankfurt auto show and used a modular typeface on a screen on the outside of the car. It reminded me of a typeface I designed on Fontstruct a number of years ago, Micro 205, but with two different sized dots instead of squares. SbB Drivetrain 209 is inspired by the Honda design, but beyond a couple of design cues, it's a completely different design.
An experimental unicase design.
