It is centred around deconstructing each letterform to give the effect of falling apart and dissolving whilst still being legible. it was important to deconstruct the letter as much as possible, but the letters should always be readable on their own.

I took inspiration from the movement of fluid and based my research on fluid dynamics. After completing experiments looking into how different liquids dispersed within water, I used the forms from images captured to influence the characters; thus Congealed was born. Transferring my original letters onto Fontstruct created broken curves, which is why Congealed was a fitting title for the typeface (congeal: verb – to become semi-solid). The variation of the weight makes this font legible and I feel that because of this, each character is unique yet complimentary of one another.

It took many different routes and ended up evoking an oriental theme based on spectacular treasures discovered in the Han royal tombs in China. These treasures are displayed in an exhibition named 'The Search for Immortality' and holds free flowing dragon forms that are made from solid jade stone. I chose to reflect the way thick hair flows into my design that creates distinguishable letterforms, both unique and complimentary of one another.

The film tells the story of a couple addicted to heroin and shows their life being forced into downwards spiral. My font is supposed to represent how their lives are slipping over the edge. If you imagine the top part of each letter is flat on a surface, the bottom half appears to be sliding off the surface, creating tension as if it about to drop. I can see this font mostly being used for posters and titles.

“Blimey! Chunky” by erathbone

"Blimey!" is a typeface inspired by the 1970s Punk movement- paying notice to the political, economical and social issues of the time and how they affected what we commonly refer to as the “Punk Aesthetic”. Ransom note lettering, stencils, silkscreen printing and the appropriation of current cultural imagery aided the movement to deliver its important message of rebellion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Starting off with the theme "Dangerous", my focus for this project drifted to the definitions of both “rebellion” and “anarchy”. This naturally led me to the Punk movement and how it’s graphic style has been adopted into contemporary design practice. These graphics were often rough, raw, weathered and distressed- all of which I’ve tried to incorporate into my own type’s design. Ironically, the fact that this “style” is being used for commercial gain goes against the very foundations of Punk itself. This realisation spurred on the font’s name Blimey!, an ironic expression that is perhaps the furthest away from punk itself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This typeface would be best utilised in consideration to posters, flyers and possibly book covers (providing the content matches the attitude of the font). Thank you very much, all comments are welcome!
I was initially inspired by foreign alphabets/symbols/logograms. In particular, Arabic characters in a Chinese calligraphic style. While this start point could have lead to more experimental outcomes, I have chosen to keep the look simple so that it would be more versatile.
My starting point was the theme of fluidity, and I developed my ideas by making observational drawings of water in containers. At the same time I paid close attention to the letterforms of existing sans serif fonts, and was further informed by similar styles of type used in net art. Aqua's transparency lends a subtle quality, while its 3D appearance helps it to stand off the page.
Piquant was designed on strong emphasis of an attractive, sharp and energetic structure. Inspired by the modern typeface of late 18th century, boasting characteristics of stroke contrast, abrupt serifs, vertical axis, horizontal stress and small aperture. I have incorporated and manipulated these features into my typographic font along with a unique appearance of flowing characters that portray an energetic flux. Piquant exhibits bold lively curvature, sharp serifs and stimulating edge to an empowered lowercase character set. The font is to be used in larger sizes in plenty of white space, with generous leading and tracking to ultimately lend a striking visual quality.
