This is half-baked, but hey. I'm (reluctantly) going to have to forego some of those pesky diagonals because they're looking just a shade on the wrong side of weird. Particularly in the caps.

I'm experimenting with "incorrect" character widths to see if the assumptions I've made about "ideal" proportions hold up when I print the font out.
Proportions are a mystery I'm gradually learning about by doing. Like anything, I suppose, all this practise can only make my designs better... or reveal that I'm a bit of a dud!
For instance, I'm being dragged, kicking and screaming, to the conclusion that diagonals in FontStruct are a bit of a minefield, and I should just acquiesce and do the "right" thing. But so many interesting fonts don't do the "right" thing...
I find it all very interesting.
Fontstruct has made me notice typography all over again. I see it anew on buses and TV. It's like a designer's second life.
