From the beginning I wanted to create a unique design, looking at sound I decided to use my voice as the starting point. After recording myself pronouncing the alphabet and uploading it to a sound editor I looked at the different shapes and patterns it created. This was my voice that was unique to me and was the inspiration for the typeface. I then researched fonts and looked at bold, chunky designs which could hold the pattern without taking too much away from the letter form as it was important to me that my design was still legible. I decided to use the corresponding sound with the letter (i.e. the A has my pronunciation of the letter running through it)making it different from anything I have seen before. Please comment and share your opinions. I used the idea to create the illusion of the type, I recorded myself saying pronouncing each letter then used the shape of the soundwave generated to create the form, each letter is different and is like a cutout held in front of an image of that letters soundwave.Font%20created%20for%20a%20project%20at%20UWE%2C%20my%20key%20word%20was%20%22LOUD%22%20.%20I%20used%20the%20idea%20to%20create%20the%20illusion%20of%20the%20type%2C%20I%20recorded%20myself%20saying%20pronouncing%20each%20letter%20then%20used%20the%20shape%20of%20the%20soundwave%20generated%20to%20create%20the%20form%2C%20each%20letter%20is%20different%20and%20is%20like%20a%20cutout%20held%20in%20front%20of%20an%20image%20of%20that%20letters%20soundwave.

I looked at different types of vibrations and the movement of the waves. I decided to work with lines because it gives the font a sense of motion.This%20is%20a%20project%20for%20my%20Graphic%20Design%20course%20in%20UWE.%20The%20theme%20is%20called%20Vibration%20and%20this%20font%20is%20based%20on%20sound%20waves.%20I%20did%20quite%20a%20few%20experiments%20before%20coming%20out%20with%20this%20final%20font.%20I%20looked%20at%20different%20types%20of%20vibrations%20and%20the%20movement%20of%20the%20waves.%20I%20decided%20to%20work%20with%20lines%20because%20it%20gives%20the%20font%20a%20sense%20of%20motion.

My typeface is based on the word 'Energy'. The design journey started with me looking into electrical energy, and the result (See: "Fused Font Thin") led me to explore magnetic energy patterns within iron fillings. Next, during the process of creating a magnetic energy typeface I saw similarities with sound waves in my designs, and so also tried to combine the two. The result was "Energy Vibration". Lots of energy drinks were consumed for inspiration and staying up for hours trying to battle the server. I chose vibration as my theme as I explored my theme I was drawn to line graphs which help record the frequency of sounds. I wanted my typeface to resemble this like it was on an ECG monitor. I also looked at John Skelton’s pinpression typeface which truly inspired my font, having continuous lines connecting all of the characters was very important and finding his work showed me that it was possible. I tried out a wide range of experimentation when it came to producing hand rendered work, as I felt I needed to work out what would best capture the general sense of the word. I tried using inks on elastic bands, attaching pens to a playstation controller and drawing, photographing food colouring over a speaker; all sorts. Finally, I decided I needed something which really reflected the word clearly. I looked at the white noise and the trails that you get on the television, and applied this feel to a sans serif font I had made based on Georgia (minus the Serifs) One of the most time comsuming things I've ever done, hope its been worth it. I experimented with speakers with paint and corn, taking photographs of the movement throughout.
