From the beginning I wanted to create a unique design, looking at sound I decided to use my voice as the starting point. After recording myself pronouncing the alphabet and uploading it to a sound editor I looked at the different shapes and patterns it created. This was my voice that was unique to me and was the inspiration for the typeface. I then researched fonts and looked at bold, chunky designs which could hold the pattern without taking too much away from the letter form as it was important to me that my design was still legible. I decided to use the corresponding sound with the letter (i.e. the A has my pronunciation of the letter running through it)making it different from anything I have seen before. Please comment and share your opinions. I used the idea to create the illusion of the type, I recorded myself saying pronouncing each letter then used the shape of the soundwave generated to create the form, each letter is different and is like a cutout held in front of an image of that letters soundwave.Font%20created%20for%20a%20project%20at%20UWE%2C%20my%20key%20word%20was%20%22LOUD%22%20.%20I%20used%20the%20idea%20to%20create%20the%20illusion%20of%20the%20type%2C%20I%20recorded%20myself%20saying%20pronouncing%20each%20letter%20then%20used%20the%20shape%20of%20the%20soundwave%20generated%20to%20create%20the%20form%2C%20each%20letter%20is%20different%20and%20is%20like%20a%20cutout%20held%20in%20front%20of%20an%20image%20of%20that%20letters%20soundwave.

I looked at deterrents like fences and specifically barbed wire ones. I didn't however want to create a font just using the barbed wire effect. I looked into the effects of barbed wire on pieces of clothing. This is where the tearing idea came from. This%20font%20is%20the%20result%20of%20some%20research%20I%20did%20into%20the%20word%20sharp.%20I%20looked%20at%20deterrents%20like%20fences%20and%20specifically%20barbed%20wire%20ones.%20I%20didn%27t%20however%20want%20to%20create%20a%20font%20just%20using%20the%20barbed%20wire%20effect.%20I%20looked%20into%20the%20effects%20of%20barbed%20wire%20on%20pieces%20of%20clothing.%20This%20is%20where%20the%20tearing%20idea%20came%20from.%20

I tried out a wide range of experimentation when it came to producing hand rendered work, as I felt I needed to work out what would best capture the general sense of the word. I tried using inks on elastic bands, attaching pens to a playstation controller and drawing, photographing food colouring over a speaker; all sorts. Finally, I decided I needed something which really reflected the word clearly. I looked at the white noise and the trails that you get on the television, and applied this feel to a sans serif font I had made based on Georgia (minus the Serifs) One of the most time comsuming things I've ever done, hope its been worth it. I wanted to communicate order my typeface, so I researched order within society and this led me to the Russian communist era, constructivism was an art movement within this period. The bold clear typorgraphy of this era influenced me to produce this slab serif version of a constructivist font. I chose to give this font serifs to give an added touch of order and formality. However I do intend to produce a sans serif version and also a bolder, headliner version of the font. It is a weighty typeface with a strong presence. Due to this nature I would say that the font is best used for subtitles and signange, possibly not main headline text. I was most interested in all the different kinds of windows I saw around, and the many shapes there were from decorative and detailed to modern and simple. I collected lots of photos of the best windows to work with, and developed these into letter forms. I then edited them until they worked as a consistent typeface. I wanted to create a playful typeface which at the same time pushed Fontstruct to it's limits. This certainly succeeded in the second. I spent lots of time playing with wax crayons. Who says an artist has to grow up? Just heads up, this font is a bit of a system killer due to the size and complexity of the glyphs so be patient and gentle when using it.
