I thought, it would be cool to have a font of that. And I know the perfect tool to build it with.As%20a%20font%20geek%2C%20I%20was%20quick%20to%20notice%20the%20lettering%20on%20the%20segmented%20signs%20used%20by%20the%20San%20Francisco%20Muni%20Metro%20trains.%20I%20thought%2C%20it%20would%20be%20cool%20to%20have%20a%20font%20of%20that.%20And%20I%20know%20the%20perfect%20tool%20to%20build%20it%20with.

I drew exactly as I saw an alphabet of 14 letters and an ampersand, and on the plane I filled in the other 12 necessary for an alphabet. The sign was all caps, but for your purposes, I shortened the lowercase.This%20font%20is%20based%20exactly%20off%20of%20my%20original%20sketch%20of%20the%20%22exit%20505%22%20sign%20I%20saw.%20%20I%20drew%20exactly%20as%20I%20saw%20an%20alphabet%20of%2014%20letters%20and%20an%20ampersand%2C%20and%20on%20the%20plane%20I%20filled%20in%20the%20other%2012%20necessary%20for%20an%20alphabet.%20%20The%20sign%20was%20all%20caps%2C%20but%20for%20your%20purposes%2C%20I%20shortened%20the%20lowercase.

At first, it might seem like a regular typeface, but when you look at the angles, they are sharp, and when you look at the curves, they are vertical. As a matter a fact, this font uses 2x vertical filtering to achieve these effects. It was very hard to make this font, and I think it looks beautiful.inspired%20by%20an%20airport%20exit%20sign%2C%20this%20font%20is%20more%20than%20what%20it%20seems%20on%20the%20surface.%20%20At%20first%2C%20it%20might%20seem%20like%20a%20regular%20typeface%2C%20but%20when%20you%20look%20at%20the%20angles%2C%20they%20are%20sharp%2C%20and%20when%20you%20look%20at%20the%20curves%2C%20they%20are%20vertical.%20%20As%20a%20matter%20a%20fact%2C%20this%20font%20uses%202x%20vertical%20filtering%20to%20achieve%20these%20effects.%20%20It%20was%20very%20hard%20to%20make%20this%20font%2C%20and%20I%20think%20it%20looks%20beautiful.

Two cars on DeTrayne are dedicated to influential graffiti artists that have passed away way too soon. Dondi, from New York, was a master of readable and wildstyle letterforms, whole-car masterpieces, colorful backgrounds and characters. He was also a pioneer in taking his art from the subway to art galleries worldwide. Dondi passed on October 2, 1998 from complications from AIDS. On this day, Feb. 17, in the year 2000, legendary San Francisco Bay Area graffiti artist, Dream, was robbed and killed at gunpoint. It was a major loss, not just for the bay area, but the worldwide graffiti art community. One of Dream's most famous pieces, "Best of Both Worlds," displayed a mastery of two intricate west coast styles that raised the bar in defining a graffiti "king." A testament to his greatness is his memorial wall in Daly City that still stands untouched to this day, and includes tribute pieces from artists that have traveled from all over the world to contribute. It was a great honor to have worked on a music video that served as a tribute to Dream, and brought his family, friends, and his crew TDK together again for a celebration of his life and art. Graffiti art has been a major influence on me and every typographic creation I develop. Out of everything I've publicly shared, this fontstruction is the most meaningful and defining for me.
