5 downloads5%20downloads5116 glyphs116%20glyphs116Ah, Square's "Chrono Trigger" on the SNES has not one, but two separate fonts on the go. This is the proportional font, used for all dialog boxes and in-battle status messages.

I've expanded the special characters a bit to make it a tad more useful, keeping the (slightly jarring, thin, anemic, and not quite vertically balanced) style of the original.

And in case you think "hey, this font looks strangely familiar"...turns out the bulk of the characters are a very close approximation of Susan Kare's venerable Chicago.Ah%2C%20Square%27s%20%22Chrono%20Trigger%22%20on%20the%20SNES%20has%20not%20one%2C%20but%20two%20separate%20fonts%20on%20the%20go.%20This%20is%20the%20proportional%20font%2C%20used%20for%20all%20dialog%20boxes%20and%20in-battle%20status%20messages.%0D%0A%0D%0AI%27ve%20expanded%20the%20special%20characters%20a%20bit%20to%20make%20it%20a%20tad%20more%20useful%2C%20keeping%20the%20%28slightly%20jarring%2C%20thin%2C%20anemic%2C%20and%20not%20quite%20vertically%20balanced%29%20style%20of%20the%20original.%0D%0A%0D%0AAnd%20in%20case%20you%20think%20%22hey%2C%20this%20font%20looks%20strangely%20familiar%22...turns%20out%20the%20bulk%20of%20the%20characters%20are%20a%20very%20close%20approximation%20of%20Susan%20Kare%27s%20venerable%20Chicago.

With the exception of two minor additions, only the characters used in the game (and present in the ROM) have been included. In addition to regular characters, the game itself uses a series of special ligatures ("il", "ll", "li" and special combinations with the aprostrophe, like "I'") that are not included here for "semantic purity". The original bitmap font used two colors to give the text an outline.  This font contains only the outline, which makes it look correct on solid surfaces.  If you use it on a transparent surface you will need to fill in the letters manually.

This was hand-drawn from a screenshot from the game so a couple of the characters might be off, but I have tried to be as accurate as possible. Of course, this is only the letters themselves, not with the blue outline that appears in the game.The%20font%20used%20for%20most%20text%20in%20Super%20Mario%20RPG.%20This%20was%20hand-drawn%20from%20a%20screenshot%20from%20the%20game%20so%20a%20couple%20of%20the%20characters%20might%20be%20off%2C%20but%20I%20have%20tried%20to%20be%20as%20accurate%20as%20possible.%20Of%20course%2C%20this%20is%20only%20the%20letters%20themselves%2C%20not%20with%20the%20blue%20outline%20that%20appears%20in%20the%20game.
