I chose Ornate. I was particularly drawn to this theme due to its relations with Biblical manuscripts and the architecture within Churches. I ended up combining the manuscript like lettering with features of Churches. I realised that this combination creates a great contrast between thick and thin, straight and curves. I found it difficult to create curves on font struct, but I rose to the challenge and created this. Our first project this year was to design a typeface based around a word of our choosing. I opted for ‘Pompous’, as it stood out to me from the list. During the project I visited Bristol Cathedral several times, and spent time in and around Bridgwater, looking at anything that I found to be pompous, such as cast-iron work and Baroque architecture. My final design is influenced by Gothic typefaces and raised lead tombstones/plaques.
