Conduit is great for making an impact if used sparingly, but not so good for large bodies of text. During my research, I have been exploring "Energy" from different points of view, from the essence of it, to scientific bases and other concepts like positive and negative energy in different contexts. The work has been inspired by the scientific way, more concretely in Nikola Tesla's experiments in the area. I found interesting how energy is created in a specific point and spreads creating different shapes. The typeface is also inspired by "Futura" typeface due to the time relationship between the creation of it and the experimentation period of Tesla. This is meant to be a display typeface, but I think it can work in a medium or big size. I chose vibration as my theme as I explored my theme I was drawn to line graphs which help record the frequency of sounds. I wanted my typeface to resemble this like it was on an ECG monitor. I also looked at John Skelton’s pinpression typeface which truly inspired my font, having continuous lines connecting all of the characters was very important and finding his work showed me that it was possible. Looked at power and electricity, and then turned to the ordered, structural make up of the electricity pylons which span our countryside. I also wanted to represent flow within the typeface, so I used a lot of curves to show the wire and give a kinetic feel to the type. This will also be made as a 3D sculpture to represent the theme of energy, and I want to link up the materials so the whole thing is magnetic/conductive.
