1 download1%20download162 glyphs62%20glyphs62Starting from the word fluid I developed this font with the aim of incorporating several characteristics pertaining to the word itself. Each letter in the font flows from one to the next; a sense of motion continuing throughout. I looked at surface tension on liquids and tried to make the shape of the font reflect the constraints of this tension. I especially looked at wax turning from liquid to solid and the rigid shape it formed. It's quite simplistic so I would like to work more with it to see how I can include more texture that could link with the light reflections on the surface.Starting%20from%20the%20word%20fluid%20I%20developed%20this%20font%20with%20the%20aim%20of%20incorporating%20several%20characteristics%20pertaining%20to%20the%20word%20itself.%20Each%20letter%20in%20the%20font%20flows%20from%20one%20to%20the%20next%3B%20a%20sense%20of%20motion%20continuing%20throughout.%20I%20looked%20at%20surface%20tension%20on%20liquids%20and%20tried%20to%20make%20the%20shape%20of%20the%20font%20reflect%20the%20constraints%20of%20this%20tension.%20I%20especially%20looked%20at%20wax%20turning%20from%20liquid%20to%20solid%20and%20the%20rigid%20shape%20it%20formed.%20It%27s%20quite%20simplistic%20so%20I%20would%20like%20to%20work%20more%20with%20it%20to%20see%20how%20I%20can%20include%20more%20texture%20that%20could%20link%20with%20the%20light%20reflections%20on%20the%20surface.

6 downloads6%20downloads630 glyphs30%20glyphs30I made this typeface based on my chosen theme continuous. When I first thought of the word ‘continuous’ I saw never ending lines and continuous loops between letters. As it was my first typeface I have created using fontstruct I decided to go with a simplistic approach by creating my typeface to be square and blocky. I began by creating a 3D word out of paper using this typeface and photographing it with the use of directional lighting to create a shadow. It was from this I got the idea of duplicating each letter and placing it above the original at a slant to resemble the shadow from the photograph I had taken. I was still able to keep with my theme of continuous by connecting both letters in a continuous loop.I%20made%20this%20typeface%20based%20on%20my%20chosen%20theme%20continuous.%20When%20I%20first%20thought%20of%20the%20word%20%E2%80%98continuous%E2%80%99%20I%20saw%20never%20ending%20lines%20and%20continuous%20loops%20between%20letters.%20As%20it%20was%20my%20first%20typeface%20I%20have%20created%20using%20fontstruct%20I%20decided%20to%20go%20with%20a%20simplistic%20approach%20by%20creating%20my%20typeface%20to%20be%20square%20and%20blocky.%20I%20began%20by%20creating%20a%203D%20word%20out%20of%20paper%20using%20this%20typeface%20and%20photographing%20it%20with%20the%20use%20of%20directional%20lighting%20to%20create%20a%20shadow.%20It%20was%20from%20this%20I%20got%20the%20idea%20of%20duplicating%20each%20letter%20and%20placing%20it%20above%20the%20original%20at%20a%20slant%20to%20resemble%20the%20shadow%20from%20the%20photograph%20I%20had%20taken.%20I%20was%20still%20able%20to%20keep%20with%20my%20theme%20of%20continuous%20by%20connecting%20both%20letters%20in%20a%20continuous%20loop.

6 downloads6%20downloads631 glyphs31%20glyphs31When I first heard the theme of ‘Continuous’ I thought of pieces of string or pipelines. I was going to incorporate this element of solid continuity into my font. However I decided to express continuity through negativity. I highlight areas of letters that are not usually focused on as the main criteria. I paid attention to the corners, as they have proven vital in forming legibility. In a way, I was experimenting with what is the absolute minimum required to provide legibility.When%20I%20first%20heard%20the%20theme%20of%20%E2%80%98Continuous%E2%80%99%20I%20thought%20of%20pieces%20of%20string%20or%20pipelines.%20I%20was%20going%20to%20incorporate%20this%20element%20of%20solid%20continuity%20into%20my%20font.%20However%20I%20decided%20to%20express%20continuity%20through%20negativity.%20I%20highlight%20areas%20of%20letters%20that%20are%20not%20usually%20focused%20on%20as%20the%20main%20criteria.%20I%20paid%20attention%20to%20the%20corners%2C%20as%20they%20have%20proven%20vital%20in%20forming%20legibility.%20In%20a%20way%2C%20I%20was%20experimenting%20with%20what%20is%20the%20absolute%20minimum%20required%20to%20provide%20legibility.

1 download1%20download130 glyphs30%20glyphs30As a first year graphic design student at the University of West England, the first project brief was to make a typeface based on a theme of our choosing. This font-struction was inspired from the word and theme continuous. Space is continuous, its never ending. I’ve tried to use space in my type face and wanted to produce something that was readable even though not the whole letter is there. Circles are also continuous but I struggled with making perfect curves so settled with quite a pixilated look. 5 downloads5%20downloads530 glyphs30%20glyphs30This Fontstruction is for the theme "continuous". For this theme I began looking at words that relate to continuous, such as "journey" I then looked at ideas that relate to journey such as train tracks. However I felt that this would have been difficult to create in fontstruct, so I proceeded to look at other things that are similar in structure which resulted in me looking at the form of zips.This%20Fontstruction%20is%20for%20the%20theme%20%22continuous%22.%20For%20this%20theme%20I%20began%20looking%20at%20words%20that%20relate%20to%20continuous%2C%20such%20as%20%22journey%22%20I%20then%20looked%20at%20ideas%20that%20relate%20to%20journey%20such%20as%20train%20tracks.%20However%20I%20felt%20that%20this%20would%20have%20been%20difficult%20to%20create%20in%20fontstruct%2C%20so%20I%20proceeded%20to%20look%20at%20other%20things%20that%20are%20similar%20in%20structure%20which%20resulted%20in%20me%20looking%20at%20the%20form%20of%20zips.

The central influence leading me to this final typeface was a Social Network diagram, where lines meet seemingly infinitely. The final product ended in a decorative, kinetic font with the use of negative space to create the emerging letters. With the typeface being difficult to read on first inspection, and the overall look of the font makes its uses limited, however I feel it could be successful in many event posters/leaflets etc.Initially%20contemplating%20the%20concept%20of%20fluidity%2C%20looking%20at%20handwritten%20brush%20types%2C%20lead%20me%20to%20the%20idea%20of%20continuity%20and%20landed%20me%20with%20the%20category%20of%20%27continuous.%27%20The%20central%20influence%20leading%20me%20to%20this%20final%20typeface%20was%20a%20Social%20Network%20diagram%2C%20where%20lines%20meet%20seemingly%20infinitely.%20The%20final%20product%20ended%20in%20a%20decorative%2C%20kinetic%20font%20with%20the%20use%20of%20negative%20space%20to%20create%20the%20emerging%20letters.%20With%20the%20typeface%20being%20difficult%20to%20read%20on%20first%20inspection%2C%20and%20the%20overall%20look%20of%20the%20font%20makes%20its%20uses%20limited%2C%20however%20I%20feel%20it%20could%20be%20successful%20in%20many%20event%20posters%2Fleaflets%20etc.
