11 downloads11%20downloads1142 glyphs42%20glyphs42This typeface was based on the theme of 'compression'. For this theme I wanted to give the impression of the letters being squashed into a small, confined space. To achieve this I started with an 8x8 grid and designed each letter according to the set size. I found this challenging at first because I soon realised that by using a small grid I had limited myself with what I could produce. However, I feel that by sticking to my grid rule I have been successful in creating a simple but effective typeface.This%20typeface%20was%20based%20on%20the%20theme%20of%20%27compression%27.%20For%20this%20theme%20I%20wanted%20to%20give%20the%20impression%20of%20the%20letters%20being%20squashed%20into%20a%20small%2C%20confined%20space.%20To%20achieve%20this%20%20I%20started%20with%20an%208x8%20grid%20and%20designed%20each%20letter%20according%20to%20the%20set%20size.%20I%20found%20this%20challenging%20at%20first%20because%20I%20soon%20realised%20that%20by%20using%20a%20small%20grid%20I%20had%20limited%20myself%20with%20what%20I%20could%20produce.%20However%2C%20I%20feel%20that%20by%20sticking%20to%20my%20grid%20rule%20I%20have%20been%20successful%20in%20creating%20a%20simple%20but%20effective%20typeface.

I was looking at the word Dangerous. In the beginning I looked at broken things, construction sites, sharp tools, thorns etc. until I narrowed down my themes to sharp objects and the swift way that a knife can cut paper. Looking at this fast movement I tried to minimise the number of lines that I used in my typeface. In my opinion this font can be used for promotional ‘danger’ posters or advertisement. 12 downloads12%20downloads1214 comments14%20comments1432 glyphs32%20glyphs32A favorite of 4 usersA%20favorite%20of%204%20users4"Fashionably Anarchic" is a typeface inspired by the 1970s Punk movement- paying notice to the political, economical and social issues of the time and how they affected what we commonly refer to as the “Punk Aesthetic”. Ransom note lettering, stencils, silkscreen printing and the appropriation of current cultural imagery aided the movement to deliver its important message of rebellion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Starting off with the theme "Dangerous", my focus for this project drifted to the definitions of both “rebellion” and “anarchy”. This naturally led me to the Punk movement and how it’s graphic style has been adopted into contemporary design practice. These graphics were often rough, raw, weathered and distressed- all of which I’ve tried to incorporate into my own type’s design. Ironically, the fact that this “style” is being used for commercial gain goes against the very foundations of Punk itself. This realisation spurred on the font’s name “Fashionably Anarchic”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This typeface would be best utilised in consideration to posters, flyers and possibly book covers (providing the content matches the attitude of the font). Thank you very much, all comments are welcome!%22Fashionably%20Anarchic%22%20is%20a%20typeface%20inspired%20by%20the%201970s%20Punk%20movement-%20paying%20notice%20to%20the%20political%2C%20economical%20and%20social%20issues%20of%20the%20time%20and%20how%20they%20affected%20what%20we%20commonly%20refer%20to%20as%20the%20%E2%80%9CPunk%20Aesthetic%E2%80%9D.%20Ransom%20note%20lettering%2C%20stencils%2C%20silkscreen%20printing%20and%20the%20appropriation%20of%20current%20cultural%20imagery%20aided%20the%20movement%20to%20deliver%20its%20important%20message%20of%20rebellion.%20~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~%0D%0A%0D%0AStarting%20off%20with%20the%20theme%20%22Dangerous%22%2C%20my%20focus%20for%20this%20project%20drifted%20to%20the%20definitions%20of%20both%20%E2%80%9Crebellion%E2%80%9D%20and%20%E2%80%9Canarchy%E2%80%9D.%20%20This%20naturally%20led%20me%20to%20the%20Punk%20movement%20and%20how%20it%E2%80%99s%20graphic%20style%20has%20been%20adopted%20into%20contemporary%20design%20practice.%20These%20graphics%20were%20often%20rough%2C%20raw%2C%20weathered%20and%20distressed-%20all%20of%20which%20I%E2%80%99ve%20tried%20to%20incorporate%20into%20my%20own%20type%E2%80%99s%20design.%20Ironically%2C%20the%20fact%20that%20this%20%E2%80%9Cstyle%E2%80%9D%20is%20being%20used%20for%20commercial%20gain%20goes%20against%20the%20very%20foundations%20of%20Punk%20itself.%20This%20realisation%20spurred%20on%20the%20font%E2%80%99s%20name%20%E2%80%9CFashionably%20Anarchic%E2%80%9D.%20%0D%0A~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~%0D%0A%0D%0AThis%20typeface%20would%20be%20best%20utilised%20in%20consideration%20to%20posters%2C%20flyers%20and%20possibly%20book%20covers%20%28providing%20the%20content%20matches%20the%20attitude%20of%20the%20font%29.%20Thank%20you%20very%20much%2C%20all%20comments%20are%20welcome%21
