Our first project this year was to design a typeface based around a word of our choosing. I opted for ‘Pompous’, as it stood out to me from the list. During the project I visited Bristol Cathedral several times, and spent time in and around Bridgwater, looking at anything that I found to be pompous, such as cast-iron work and Baroque architecture. My final design is influenced by Gothic typefaces and raised lead tombstones/plaques. The name ‘Delectatio Morosa’ is Latin for peevish delight, which I discovered whilst looking at different Latin phrases.I%20am%20a%20first%20year%20student%20at%20the%20University%20of%20the%20West%20of%20England.%20Our%20first%20project%20this%20year%20was%20to%20design%20a%20typeface%20based%20around%20a%20word%20of%20our%20choosing.%20I%20opted%20for%20%E2%80%98Pompous%E2%80%99%2C%20as%20it%20stood%20out%20to%20me%20from%20the%20list.%20During%20the%20project%20I%20visited%20Bristol%20Cathedral%20several%20times%2C%20and%20spent%20time%20in%20and%20around%20Bridgwater%2C%20looking%20at%20anything%20that%20I%20found%20to%20be%20pompous%2C%20such%20as%20cast-iron%20work%20and%20Baroque%20architecture.%20My%20final%20design%20is%20influenced%20by%20Gothic%20typefaces%20and%20raised%20lead%20tombstones%2Fplaques.%20The%20name%20%E2%80%98Delectatio%20Morosa%E2%80%99%20is%20Latin%20for%20peevish%20delight%2C%20which%20I%20discovered%20whilst%20looking%20at%20different%20Latin%20phrases.

Oldstyle with modern FontStructed conformity. Works for short words in big sizes. HEAVILY inspired by the calligraphic fontworks of Bulgarian designers J Jelew and S Simow. One could say it´s more or less a FontStruct adaptation of their fine "Grant Deco", I have no problem with that. I wanted to see the "Grant" glyphs a little less "tall and hansome".
