It draws inspiration from neo-classical architecture, tattoos the base outline takes elements from church windows holding the inner detailing which was somewhat inspired by a combination of knit-work and the forms within the glass holding together stain glass windows. The flourishes and filigree forms are a more simplistic take on tattoo lettering. I started looking at how the time of day effected the shape and the size of the subsequent shadow cast. However, I then moved onto the ideas of bevels and a more subtle shadow effect created by raised centres of the letterforms. The 'impossible triangle' effect came from a idea that was brought up in a critique about 'extending it and making it really elaborate'. The name is chosen because I think that typefaces should have friendly names.a%20typeface%20centred%20around%20the%20key%20theme%2Fword%20%27shadow%27.%20I%20started%20looking%20at%20how%20the%20time%20of%20day%20effected%20the%20shape%20and%20the%20size%20of%20the%20subsequent%20shadow%20cast.%20However%2C%20I%20then%20moved%20onto%20the%20ideas%20of%20bevels%20and%20a%20more%20subtle%20shadow%20effect%20created%20by%20raised%20centres%20of%20the%20letterforms.%20The%20%27impossible%20triangle%27%20effect%20came%20from%20a%20idea%20that%20was%20brought%20up%20in%20a%20critique%20about%20%27extending%20it%20and%20making%20it%20really%20elaborate%27.%20The%20name%20is%20chosen%20because%20I%20think%20that%20typefaces%20should%20have%20friendly%20names.

I chose Ornate. I was particularly drawn to this theme due to its relations with Biblical manuscripts and the architecture within Churches. I ended up combining the manuscript like lettering with features of Churches. I realised that this combination creates a great contrast between thick and thin, straight and curves. I found it difficult to create curves on font struct, but I rose to the challenge and created this. It is themed 'dynamic', however once i started research and mind mapping i went more in the direction of dynamic dance and movement; which is what lead me to looking at ribbons and ballet. I wanted to bring the letterforms back towards the dynamic theme, so decided to make the sides and corners more angular. With some of the letters i tried to create a joined up handwriting feel, inspired by the way that ribbon floats and would fall if it was making the letters naturally. From the beginning I wanted to create a unique design, looking at sound I decided to use my voice as the starting point. After recording myself pronouncing the alphabet and uploading it to a sound editor I looked at the different shapes and patterns it created. This was my voice that was unique to me and was the inspiration for the typeface. I then researched fonts and looked at bold, chunky designs which could hold the pattern without taking too much away from the letter form as it was important to me that my design was still legible. I decided to use the corresponding sound with the letter (i.e. the A has my pronunciation of the letter running through it)making it different from anything I have seen before. I was influenced by Art Deco design, as well as the form of grids. It was developed by hand using a ruler and pen, experimenting with spacing and curves. My chosen theme for the six week project was decay. I decided to create two fonts, an original and a decayed version. I took inspiration from photos I took of graffiti and tagging around Bristol. For this specific font I was inspired by the way graffiti changes and breaks down over time.
