Typeface%20based%20on%20the%20work%20of%20Victorian%20Designer%20and%20Architect%20E.%20W.%20Godwin%20%281833-1886%29%20born%20in%20Stokes%20Croft%2C%20Bristol.%20He%20was%20influential%20in%20the%20Aesthetic%20movement%20that%20created%20%22the%20look%22%20of%20Victorian%20Britain.%20He%20began%20his%20career%20working%20in%20the%20strongly%20polychromatic%20%22Ruskinian%20Gothic%22%20style%20of%20mid-Victorian%20Britain%2C%20inspired%20by%20The%20Stones%20of%20Venice%2C%20then%20moved%20on%20to%20provide%20designs%20in%20the%20%22Anglo-Japanese%20taste%22%20of%20the%20Aesthetic%20Movement%20and%20Whistler%27s%20circle%20in%20the%201870s.%20A%20friend%20of%20Oscar%20Wilde%2C%20James%20Whistler%20and%20William%20Burges%20he%20was%20also%20the%20father%20of%20revered%20actress%20Dame%20Ellen%20Terrys%20illegitimate%20child.%20Godwin%27s%20influence%20can%20be%20detected%20in%20the%20Arts%20and%20Crafts%20Movement.%20To%20judge%20from%20his%20sketchbooks%20at%20the%20Victoria%20and%20Albert%20Museum%2C%20one%20might%20have%20expected%20an%20eclectic%20historicist%2C%20but%20Godwin%2C%20by%20no%20means%20a%20tame%20reproducer%20of%20antiquarian%20Gothic%20designs%2C%20was%20among%20the%20first%20to%20extend%20the%20European%20design%20repertory%20to%20include%20the%20arts%20of%20Japan%2C%20which%20had%20been%20opened%20to%20the%20Western%20world%20in%201853.%20His%20work%20is%20undergoing%20a%20revival%20since%20he%20was%20jokingly%20adopted%20as%20the%20patron%20saint%20of%20Stokes%20Croft%20by%20community%20action%20group%20the%20Peoples%20Republic%20of%20Stokes%20Croft.%20The%20group%20aim%20to%20to%20put%20some%20of%20his%20finest%20architectural%20achievements%20in%20the%20city%20back%20to%20good%20use%20as%20many%20of%20them%20despite%20being%20buildings%20of%20some%20historical%20significance%20lie%20empty%20and%20unused.%20His%20design%20work%20is%20being%20reincorporated%20into%20the%20urban%20landscape%20through%20the%20community%20organisation%27s%20programme%20of%20public%20art%20and%20his%20style%20has%20recently%20been%20adopted%20by%20a%20number%20of%20Street%20Artists%20including%20Dones%20and%20Felix%20Braun%20so%20his%20work%20is%20undergoing%20some%20kind%20of%20a%20revival.The%20glyphs%20are%20all%20based%20on%20the%20patterns%20from%20his%20sketchbooks.
