With this in mind, i set out to create a font based on my own handwriting, except "idealized", in other words normalized it so that it becomes usable as type (within the contraints of the FS engine of course, making for a somewhat blocky font). This taught me a few interesting things about how apparently similar letters (b/d, p/q, etc.) are actually "drawn" very differently on paper, & for this reason should probably be designed differently when turned into actual type. I'm just putting it up because it finally has a complete lowercase alphabet & so is actually usable in limited cases. The goal with this project is to create a humanist italic close to a Caslon, but within Fontstruct limitations. The x-height here is actually quite small: 6 blocks tall. This one seems to stand small point sizes surprisingly well. At larger sizes, it begins to look jagged but that's actually kind of nice. Of course kerning is all over the place. Not to mention the lack of capitals, punctuation, etc. There will be changes. Obviously there were no rounded corners in ansi but style-wise, it's pretty close I think. And it looks to me like a relatively "usable" font (in real life terms), other than the fact that it's not very readable. Oh well. Other than that, the font features lots of "special" characters (diacritics etc.), & text figures (aka old-style numerals), which is kind of silly since nobody in their right mind would compose an entire paragraph in this font.
